Let me say, that I had some issues with book 2, Dreamless because of the whole Orion-Lucas-Helen fiasco, so going into this book I was worried. I didn't know what to expect from the last book of the series, which is not fun when you've invested so much love and time into these characters and the world that is surrounding them. This is a possession story with a twist. A few friends gather together to channel their inner witch vibes and unintentionally conjure up an ancient goddess. This sudden presence in the friend group causes some concern among the girls and their parents. A priest is summoned which only manages to make the situation worse and more dangerous. This collection of poems by the acclaimed author of When I Hit You is uncompromising and approaches figures from ancient Hindu literature with subversion. Her preface Should You Take Offence is indicative of the book’s mission: “Your myths put me in my place. Therefore, I take perverse pleasure in such deliberate paraphrase … I do not write into patriarchy. My Maariamma bays for blood. My Kali kills. My Draupadi strips. My Sita climbs on to a stranger’s lap. All my women militate.” Her poems Random Access Man and Princess-in-Exile imagine a different version of Sita, the long-suffering wife of Rama, who is central in the epic poem the Ramayana. Exhilarating.

The most significant impact for me was energy throughout the day. By making sure I ate a savoury breakfast, I felt like my morning energy was stronger and – even better – I didn’t crash after lunch. I wasn’t yawning come 3 pm and when I got home from work, I was ready to take on different chores/tasks more energetically. Her choices were compulsive, anyone who showed her attention or compassion in at small way was something she latched onto like a drowning woman in the middle of the ocean. She’s a big one and for reference not reading – but if you’re a Goddess devotee it’s a must have. Hector together with Andy saved the day. Jk, but he saved or at least helped Helen and the others a lot. He changed in this book and it made him even more swoon-worthy! He was a true hero.

I would highly recommend this horror novella. This is easily one of the best 2021 releases I have read so far this year. Pharand, Michael W. This book was fast-paced and impossible to put down. I constantly felt the need to know what happened next and I couldn’t stop until I was done. At times, I found the narrative to be a bit disjointed in places, particularly during some of the shifts in perspective. That being said, I would absolutely love to read more by this author. She has a powerful authorial voice and has potential to become a new favourite author of mine. Aphrodite: Father, why are you pointing that thing towards me.
