Through the online content we publish, we share our opinions and thoughts on the various problems that the world is facing right now. If it were only about that I probably wouldn't have loved it so much and thought about it constantly when I wasn't reading it. Today I am sharing my review for Eleventh Cycle by Kian Ardalan, the first book in the Mistland series.

Again, the weight of that and how it impacted her emotions and behaviour was really well done, and I was caught up in her struggle.Somewhere among the tallied days was the first of them all, the day where I felt so withered and my heart was like a distant thrum, my breath so ragged that it stumbled over itself. The content warnings included in the foreword should also be noted, because while some of them were not as intense as I might have expected, others were, and this book will not be for everyone. We first meet Dalila, a farmer girl with a mysterious ability that leads to conflict with her conservative family.

ELEVENTH CYCLE is a book that can horrify you one minute and then touch every heartstring in your being the next. There's one aspect that I found especially interesting that I would like to talk about before passing to the characters, and it is how well the fragmented narration is integrated into the full story.Balancing hopeful tones with despairing ones and allowing the reader to enjoy some light in an otherwise dark and eldritch world is managed with poise, such that when I turned the final page, I didn’t depart from Eleventh Cycle depressed about what had happened, but rather in awe at the mind-bending world I got to inhabit, and the incredible tale that unfolded within this book’s seven-hundred or so pages. And I cannot talk about surprisingly human and relatable characters without talking about the Eleventh Seed themself, Ievarus.

And I really do love the worldbuilding, and I hope that the potential – and there is so much of it – will really get a chance to shine going forward.It’s a commitment and an experience to read, and not always a pleasant one, but no, overall, I believe that Ardalan achieved what he set out to create in Eleventh Cycle.
