There will be two Crusader Squads: the old one that everyone knows and a new one made up exclusively of Primaris. The latter will be 5-11 Primaris Initiates, 4-8 Primaris Neophytes, and 1 Primaris Sword Brother. Neophytes will have 2W and 2A like other Primaris. We’ll be taking a look at their new rules throughout the week, which cover all the ways this unconventional successor Chapter wages wars. Designed to let you add greater variety to your Crusader Squads with a range of heads, weapons, and wargear, this set also comes with a multi-melta for a vehicle of your choice, six powerful Relics with which to equip your Relic Bearers, and a range of sculpted shoulder pads. So these are technically the first generic Lightning Claws for Primaris Marines. Whatever — I got excited to see them on in this sprue and I hope that GW makes rules for their use for Primaris Marines more widespread than just Sword Brethren. The bits for them (the arms included) seem pretty universal. And with some creative modeling, you could probably reposition them, too. I'm okay to do conversions, since that's a big thing in Mordheim, and I have a Saturn 2 8K 3d printer as well. I wasn't sure if I should find some 3d printable bits to add on as conversions, or if the Upgrade Kit is my better bet. Even if I were to print out the bits, I'm not sure which models I could put what bits on! It's a whole new world for me. It’s another huge week for Warhammer+ next week. There’s the seventh episode of Angels of Death, in which our heroes find themselves in yet more trouble, as well as a long, hard look at Roboute Gulliman in Loremasters, and the first-ever Battle Report from Warhammer Underworlds, featuring guest host Phil Kelly. The Warhammer Vault meanwhile adds Realmgate Wars V: All Gates and July 2021’s White Dwarf.

The Combat Patrol has 445 points before you start adding equipment and offers a slightly different force option to that in the Army Set, with more troops and transport rather than the Dreadnought. The Emperor's Champion from the Army Set can be bought separately, but not including him in this set allows you to reinforce your Army Set with the units from this one without doubling up on them. The Crusader kit will have options for a Sword Brother unit leader with cape, and there’s a 15″ AP-1 flamer. There will also be a multi-melta which will become a BT vehicle option. It’ll replace the stubber on Primaris vehicles.

Assorted decorations, including purity seals, honour scrolls, candles, martyrs’ bones, lanterns, icons, and what looks like a Holy Hand Grenade… The existence of a Primaris Initiate implies the existence of Primaris Neophytes – the other half of the Templars’ Crusade Squads, these guys are newer, less experienced Astartes who pair with a single Initiate for guidance and training. One of the creepier relics in the set, the Aurillian Shroud is as macabre as they come with a skeleton blessed by Saint Agatine just visible underneath the cloth. The banner is marked by a crusade seal, similar in appearance to classic purity seals but instead sporting red paper with Templar vows written across them. Several of these crusade seals are also included in the set, adding a bit of variety to your holiest of warriors. The Aurillian Shroud, Skull of the Cacodominus, Sword of Judgement, Witchseeker Bolts, Ancient Breviary, and The Crusader's Helm. alternate arm options (one holding a bolt carbine, one holding a grenade, and one carrying an Initiate's helmet)The Initiate is armed with a brand new, juiced up flamer weapon, the Pyreblaster, emblazoned with the Templar cross –implyingnot only that this is a Templars-only weapon, but there might be more to come… Any recommendations for 3d printed bits? Are 3d prints bits(not entire model replacements, just things like shoulder pads, weapons, add-on fluff and the like) allowed in FLGS games?

But then, the following day, it changed its mind, and gave the intriguing answer that the model can represent either a Primaris or a Firstborn marine, depending on your preference: They have access to the best gear, even esoteric weaponry – but being knights, they favour swords and axes. They could wear a power fist if they wanted to, but they’re all about the idea of nobility.” Honestly, this is a pretty decent upgrade kit, you can even use it to turn marines into Neophytes. With all the heads, shoulder pads, and weapons, this can take your existing force pretty easily into the new book. Overall we have to say this update is pretty awesome and just full of really cool minis. Looks like we’ll be seeing a lot of new BT armies out there soon!In a first for an upgrade sprue, you’ll also be able to equip the Relics you collect in your Crusade missions on your Heroes for that fervent narrative touch. I really hope players and GW take more notes from this box. It’s just really promising to see the actual bits for these named Relics. BT player can just buy the upgrade kit and model a Marine with the Relic! And they are unique enough to actually stand out. GW could do this for literally every army in the game — they have created special relics for them in the rules, now they have the ability to model new bits for each one as well. Another heraldic detail, which you can see in SRM’s Marshall below, is the painting of the Templar cross in white over the helmet faceplate. It’s a pretty striking effect and looks great on models you want to make stand out. Everything about the Crusader Squad suggests tradition and, well, eternal crusade. Their tabards become more damaged as brothers move up the hierarchy as “a bit of a symbolism to represent that they are a fleet-based Chapter”.
