I think if I had a garden during this Covid time, it would help me out so much better. A garden space has so much life. My life goal is to have a place again that I can have a garden of my own. Grandma's Garden was developed by an Educational Psychologist and parents of preschoolers for children ages 5 and under. In Arkansas and Washington, DC, we spent lots of time at the zoo, and my grandmother always pointed out the trees and plants the animals were sitting under, swinging on or eating.My first place I lived on my own was renting a room in a house in Ann Arbor. We had a small side yard with sun and we turned that space into a garden. I got to plan it out. People could not believe how healthy and vibrant that little piece of land was. I mean we got so much stuff from it. I loved being part of that garden and I felt much the way about the plants that this book does. It was wonderful. I would go outside to sit in the garden and zen out. It felt wonderful. Our house was in the middle of town and people would walk by and talk about all the plants. We had veggies and flowers all over the place. We would can about 40 - 50 quarts of tomatoes from that little spot of land. I would find a new plant and decide to plant it and watch it grow. I grew everything just about. I never got the asparagus to head up enough to eat, but just about everything else did well. I even had a horseradish plant as the center piece and we dug up part of it each year and ground it into fresh horseradish each year. OH, I loved that day and the smell in the house. It was awesome. Grandma’s Gardens” is a lovely book, a wonderful addition to any library. It is about family – grandmothers, mothers, and daughters. It is about gardens, flowers, love, and connection. We start off and this women talks about gardening with her grandma and she then shares it with her daughter and eventually her granddaughter. I love that feel of roots to each other. In this story, it's about gardening with the women in the family. I just love this!!! The artwork wasn't special, but it conveyed the beauty of the plants and I loved being able to name the plants.
