They are usually made of a common base core similar to other colored pencils with bits of metallic glitter mixed in. They tend to be harder than ordinary colored pencils, but will still cover, outline, and generally create a good art effect. Create a dark, metallic edge on an item in a picture, then fill in the center with regular colored pencils.
