Space Invaders Game History To get straight to the point Space Invaders upon its release became one of the most influential video games of all time. In Japan the game became so popular that certain arcades contained only Space Invader gaming cabinets. The game was blamed for the Yen shortage, and on a more serious note also blamed for the increase in youth crime of the era. This was because it was believed to be responsible for teenagers stealing to have money for their daily fix of the Space Invader experience.
