Limited issue with heavy slip-case and thick booklet with the title 'EMI 100 1997 ・The First Centenary' featuring the history of EMI and also colour and black and white photographs of EMI artists such as The Beatles, Queen etc. It was released on May 29, 1984, through Capitol Records and was her first album released through the label. Ultimately the booklet and the content itself of this deluxe edition lack any historical narrative or insight. Yes, the seven-inch mix of the title track is available elsewhere, but this is a 30th anniversary edition and it surely the version-everyone-heard-on-the-radio should be here – but it isn’t. Mark produced the song and sang it, and after he did it he felt that it was not a song for a man, so it was just sitting on the shelf… He gave me the track and I copied it with Dire Straits people – most of them.

Private Dancer had enough diversity to appeal to the trucker making his way up the Alaska Highway and the housewife in the UK suburb doing the school run. It almost became academic whether they were big hits (many weren’t), they simply kept the promotional merry-go-round turning. In 2015, Canadian electronic musician and performance artist Peaches performed a piano version of the song on The Strombo Show at the home of George Stroumboulopoulos. This version, although probably digitally recorded anyway, is very "open" sounding, and Tina's powerful vocals vibrate front and center.

Knopfler once said the song was ruined due to "them drafting in Jeff Beck to play the world's second-ugliest guitar solo". The cover of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” and Tina’s “Better Be Good To Me” start side 2 where side 1 left off.

If you haven’t read it before check out the SDE interview with Martyn Ware discussing Private Dancer. This album contains the hits "WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT", "YOU BETTER BE GOOD TO ME ", and "PRIVATE DANCER" .The only purple faced USA from Japan pressing I've heard did not fare well against the Japanese CP35-3148 Black Triangle pressing for me. The album peaked at number three on the Billboard 200 chart for ten consecutive weeks [24] and remained in the top ten for 39 weeks from August 1984 to May 1985. River Deep Mountain High, Proud Mary, Nutbush City Limits and this album are for me the hi spots of Tina's recorded work. Originally released in June 1984, Private Dancer features hits from the eight time Grammy® winning artist including "What's Love Got to Do With It," "Better Be Good To Me," "Private Dancer," and "Let's Stay Together. The three 45s everyone remembers are UK top ten hit Let’s Stay Together, US chart topper What’s Love Got To Do With It and the Mark Knopfler-penned Private Dancer.

I have a club edition press from 1984, and while I love having that just for the nostalgia of having a 1984 from 1984 lol. Perhaps the Canadian pressings you are considering have the same mastering as at least one of the Japanese pressings. But lest we forget, I Can’t Stand The Rain was big in Germany, and even fifth-single-in-the-USA Show Some Respect snuck into the top 40. The accompanying music video for "Private Dancer", featuring dance choreography by Arlene Phillips, was directed by Brian Grant and filmed at London's Rivoli Ballroom. The song was written by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, but never fully recorded or released by his band.As we know, artistic talent often takes a musician only so far (and Tina Turner has always been a great talent in my opinion). The Daily Vault's Mark Millan wrote, "It's a sexy, dark track that gives the album an edge and also a chance for Turner's powerful sexuality to sparkle. No one has commissioned a documentary (like the one on the DVD that formed part of the excellent Roy Orbison Mystery Girl deluxe).
