Clair masterfully weaves the complexities of mythology with modern romance, portraying Hades as a multi-faceted and compelling character who is both dark and alluring. What I LOVED about this book was Hades, Hecate, literally everyone that works for Hades and the Underworld. Lastly, she spends a lot of time thinking Independent Woman thoughts, but all of those seem to fly out the window the second she gets in the presence of Hades and his magical dick. They began to be under the God’s radar and this thing caused conflict, which drowns dynamic to the plot. Her writing style is easy to follow and helps to achieve that connection to the character - like I often found myself laughing at comments made by Hermes.

It’s a really short read, and although it’s an ancient text, it’s easy to read and is a great intro to the beliefs of the ancient Greeks. But her assassination attempt is thwarted, and Adrian threatens that if Isolde tries to kill him again, he will raise her as the undead. Hopefully her next Hades book, which would be his pov of A Touch of Malice will come out way before then so I can get my fix. Understanding more about Scarlett and her choices when writing the perspective of Persephone has caused me to warm a bit more to her POV, but I’m sure I’ll enjoy Hades’ perspective more 😂 Anyway, my opinions on this series are sort of chaotic but it’s safe to say they are still VERY steamy, unique and overall, enjoyable reads!What I DO vibe with, is pretty much all of the secondary characters; Hermes, Hecate, Sybil, Thanatos, and even Apollo. He allows Persephone to continue thinking ill of him, then gets irritated when she thinks ill of him. It seemed that the author cherry-picked images/names/themes from mythology without taking the time to construct a cohesive universe with them.

It was really difficult to get a handle on the way in which mythological characters were employed in this story. I would've liked to have heard more character development or backstory, but I suppose that's due in Scarlett's following novels. Whether it’s due to the fact that I sped it up, or if she was just better this time I’m not sure, but if you decide to listen to the audiobook, definitely speed it up! Yes, the Hades x Persephone series is a complete series, ending with the final book, A Touch of Chaos. I think it’s a great way for new authors to get their work out to an audience, especially an audience that might be smaller than a publisher wants to bet on. Faced with a side of Hades she never knew, and crushing loss, Persephone wonders if she can truly become Hades’s queen.
