The armrest is classic, the shaft has clamps which is a rather convenient solution (here, I’m taking a potshot at Garrett Ace, just in case). Yet, the wire of the coil is still on the outer side, while I would really preferred to have it inside – this is way more convenient, and we could have taken a potshot at several other brands). Wow! Thank you so much for doing this Terry. At first I was thinking this was the wrong forum for my newbie questions, then here you are with a custom video response. The main and the most interesting features of it are as follows: all purpose multifrequency detector , compatible with several DD coils, four search modes (similar to 440) plus pinpoint mode included. Only native headphones fit. If you’ve always wanted to own and use a multi-frequency machine at a lower price tag, then that’s probably the right choice! The 340 is still a great option for those on a stricter budget. Both the Vanquish series and Equinox series have higher Target ID accuracy at maximum depth and faster recovery speed, making them a true contender in the metal detecting world.

Purpose: Evaluate the overall operational capability, sensitivity and stability of the Minelab Vanquish 440 metal detector under various test conditions. As always, I report findings and provide comments from strictly a user perspective--not that of a technical engineer.While I am a huge fan of the Minelab Equinox series, they are so much more expensive than the Vanquish series or the Simplex+. For this reason, I would typically recommend the other metal detectors. Don’t get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Equinox 600 or 800, and if they fit well within your budget, so be it! Minelab is an Australian manufacturer of metal detectors and accessories that has been creating leading edge technology for over 35 years. They are known for making metal detectors that can manage the most difficult soil conditions and terrains.

Three tones are factory set at Low, Medium and High all of which are clear and very distinguishable. Not surprisingly, I like this set up since I programmed my Equinox 800 and my CTX 3030 years ago to report 3 tones. Personally, I don’t need any more than 3 since ALL targets encountered are either low, medium or high conductors so why not align the tones accordingly? A simplified plus in my book.Minelab’s Vanquish 440 is a great entry-level metal detector with some features that are not often found on beginner metal detectors. It comes standard with Minelab’s patented Multi-IQ technology. Multi-IQ is a multiple frequency technology that allows the metal detector to operate on multiple frequencies simultaneously. Battery: the 540 comes with rechargeable batteries instead of replaceable ones that the 440 and 340 have. Both metal detectors are a great option. Both are tailored to entry-level and intermediate metal detectorists. The Vanquish 540 has more features, more discrimination options, adjustable iron bias, rechargeable batteries, and a larger search coil. We all know it is not how many features you have on a detector thought, it is having the right kind of features. The Vanquish 440 is no slouch with enough discrimination and sensitivity adjustments for entry level metal detectorists to get a feel for detecting.

The lower frequencies are more responsive to highly conductive metals like silver. Higher frequencies are more responsive to low conductive metals like gold. Many ore producing areas have difficult ground conditions. For example, the places I usually metal detect in Utah and Idaho are known ore producing regions. And for afters, let’s dissect Vanquish 540, the most sophisticated model of the three in this series.

The 440 features Multi-IQ technology (more on this in the next section), a waterproof V10 search coil, audio control, and pinpoint mode. This simple to use, lightweight, compact metal detector works well in all terrains and for all metals. This is an all-purpose machine with great features, a compact design, and simple functionality at a fantastic price. While designed with beginner metal detectorists in mind, the Vanquish 440 has enough features to make even an intermediate detectorist happy. Vanquish 440 has four search modes: coins, relics, jewelry, and custom. As for me, I use Relics mode more often. I’d advise using All metal at the beginning, but you should pay attention to how each target sounds, including iron. This way, you’ll learn to hear what kind of metal is under the coil, and then you can switch to other settings and feel more confident when using them. Waterproof, lightweight, and pretty functional, we would say this model of the series is very nice for beginner detectorists (mainly because it has pinpoint included!) Vanquish 540 The 340 is an all-terrain model featuring 3 search modes: Coin, Jewelry, and All Metal. This model works extremely well in parks, fields, yards, rivers, mountains, wet sand, saltwater beaches, and gold prospecting. Saltwater, wet sand, and gold prospecting are all difficult for single frequency metal detectors to manage. The Vanquish 340 does not have this problem thanks to its multiple frequencies. A: In my humble opinion, yes! Especially if you are a new detectorist, you will find the Vanquish 340 perfect for starting out. The only real difference in these detectors is the Vanquish 440 has a few more features and settings. But that does not mean the Vanquish 340 is not a fantastic metal detector. This model is more than enough for someone just starting out.Offering 3 pre-set detecting modes plus pin-point and all metal modes the Vanquish 440 will take your detecting to the next level. A: Yes! Because they are multiple frequency, they can help themselves mitigate the effects of wet sand and saltwater. Single frequency metal detectors struggle in saltwater because of its conductivity. The range of frequencies these models operate on also help you find lost jewelry and coins at the beach. Metal detector models 340 and 440 require 4 AA batteries as a power supply, while model 540 has battery accumulators included as well as a charging device for them. The Quest company is also working on a new series of advanced metal detecting machines, also in the beginner-middle level, but with a bunch of cool features. Larger Coil: Still a Double-D one, yet it is a larger one with 12*9 inches of dimensions… This will make the machine about 0.3 pounds (100 Grams) heavier (not significant I would say …) yet this will allow you to cover much more space while detecting.
