The superstar of the sound department is Bruce Campbell, who lends his voice to the main character, Ash. This game wouldn't have been nearly as fun if it didn't have Campbell onboard, simply because his deadpan delivery of lines is perfect. Incredibly Durable Enemies: The enemies in the penultimate level, unless you use the flamethrower on them. Basic combat is actually quite satisfying, given that your basic weapons are the most macho things imaginable, a sawed-off shotgun and a chainsaw mounted on the stump of your arm. Especially cool is Ash's move of shooting over his own shoulder, spaghetti-western style. And you'll soon find it useful: deadites come at you in large swaths, making for frantic action. The visuals here aren’t bad per say, though suffer greatly from absolutely no enhancements for the superior hardware. The colours here are quite bland, with much brown and grey covering the scenes, which gives it all this sort of dull unappealing look about it.

Another good thing in the realm of sound is the music. It swells whenever a threat approaches, so the music (as in a horror film) is dynamic and actually helps the experience of the game. The melodies are straight out of a horror film (think frantic), and build the sense of urgency and danger. This article's plot summary may be too long or excessively detailed. Ash would use the shotgun more frequently during his second night trapped at the cabin, such as "hunting" his severed hand and accidentally shooting Bobby Joe through the cabin's front door. Upon Bobby Joe's disappearance after seeing Ash's severed hand, her boyfriend Jake took the shotgun from Ash and forced him and Annie Knowby to go out into the woods and find Bobby Joe. After Jake's death at the hands of the Deadite Henrietta Knowby, Ash shortened the shotgun's barrel from 26 inches to roughly 13 inches using a chainsaw. Search everywhere. There are tons of Save Tokens hidden in the nooks and crannies of the levels. Make sure you find them. Wait until he is walking toward a barrel and gets close to it. Then, shoot the barrel and it will explode, flipping him over. Start shooting him after he flips over. Later in the fight, he will start charging you. When this happens, run along the walls until he runs into one, then start shooting him.The polygon count for all the various models here is quite low, as you might expect, and it’s all fairly flatly textured, and as for pixel shading . . . forget it. There are some good puzzle solving moments in the game, which often require some lateral thinking, and good observation of your surroundings, and also having to make full use of everything at your disposal. Bruce Campbell doesn't come through very well in this - I really enjoyed his lines in Tachyon: The Fringe, but here, he seems to be dragged down by uninspired writing and tired old references. His in-game model doesn't come off very well, either: See that odd Ash action figure on the cover? The in-game one is about the same, only cornier. You normally receive tasks from talking to various characters found throughout the game world, and they will usually concern gaining access to a certain place, or locating a specific person, or persons, obtaining objects, among some other more specific things. The game is based on the game engine of State of Emergency, with very similar gameplay. Essentially it's a free-roaming beat-em-up with 360 degree aiming gunplay.
