My favourite characters were Brutus and Julius. I liked Julius because he never gave up on what he had to do and was always courageous. I liked Brutus because he helped Julius. Julius spolu so svojimi zvieracími priateľmi trénuje v gladiátorskej škole, ktorá ho má pripraviť na veľké hry. Podarí sa mu poraziť slávnych gladiátorov a vybojovať si svoju slobodu? I just adored the expressions on the animals (and humans). They were so silly and over the top. Especially Julius had some fabulous expression ranging from demented to crazy to something that should pass as normal. The most I can say about this book is that you get what its cover promises. A fun and zany story set in Ancient Rome featuring a loveable derpy zebra. It's funny but tedious in the way many humourous children's books are. My favourite character is Julius because he always helps other people. He is very strong, brave and courageous. My least favourite character is Septimus. I dislike him because he is unpleasant and because he painfully beats up Julius.This book asks you so many questions and gives so many answers which is good! I love this book so much I want to buy them all. I think Gary Northfield is an amazing writer.

This is a funny and interesting book ideal for anyone aged 6-12 who likes a good story, embedded with facts from the real world . I enjoyed this book so much I went out and bought the first book in the series (It was the last one on the book shelf.) NO! NO! THERE’LL BE NO FACES ON MY FIGHTING POLES!” Septimus wrested away the paint pot and brushes and threw them out of the arena.. I would want to read more books from this author if his other books are like this. Julius Zebra is a very good. It’s funny and teaches you a lot about history at the same time.

The word level and illustrations were just right. I liked Chapter 21 best because it's really funny because they dress up as mummies. I didn't like chapter 23 because it's so small! I would highly recommend this. I think that Julius Zebra is a very funny book full of comedy. Another very good thing about it is that it includes a lot history, like how the Britons would fight the Romans in a battlefield. It relates to real life as well because the Romans had the Coliseum to fight in with different gladiators. The book makes you actually feel like you’re the zebra going up to fight against the Britons. My favourite part was when the Romans where on a holiday on a cruise ship and they want to escape, so they come up with a master plan of dressing up like fish and diving into the ocean. This overall was a really great book it was full of emotions and really was a great book. I would recommend this book because it is hilarious. I give it nine out of ten because it is a bit scary in parts. The funniest part so far is when Julius calls the gladiators, monkeys! (Katie P, 8)I would recommend this book because it is adventurous especially when Julius goes on a boat from Rome to Britannia. I would recommend this book for people at school who are learning about the Romans because it would teach them more about Roman history and life. I learnt that in Britannia they also had arenas and in the arenas animals fought against animals. The book made me want to find out more about the Romans and Celts.

I particularly liked the character Cornelius. This is because he was brave, kind and helpful and whenever one of the animals in the book needed help or comforting, Cornelius would be there in a jiff! There were many parts of the book that I really liked reading about. I especially enjoyed reading about the things Romans did when they travelled to Britannia because I learnt they had to do chores when they really wanted to relax because they thought they were on holiday. Pretend?” Julius was puzzled. “But they don’t even have any arms or legs! Call this a gladiator school? You don’t even know how to make a pretend gladiator!” As well as providing much hilarity Julius Zebra cunningly educates about Ancient Rome without ever feeling like a lesson [...] A wonderfully ridiculous book; full of fun it will educate and entertain in equal measures. In a story typical of many children's books, a main character doesn't quite fit in with his family and tries to get away by himself. Unfortunately though, Julius is a zebra living in Roman times, and is captured and sent to Rome to perform in the arena for Hadrian. The Dutch translation was really well done. Sometimes humour doesn't get translated well (like with Disc World for instance), but in this one the translator managed to translate and hold the humour. Good job! Na konci je aj pekná príloha, ktorá vysvetľuje rímske číslice a aj slovník niektorých výrazov, kde sú veľmi jednoducho vysvetlené pojmy súvisiace s Rímom.
