Adam Audio - I'm pretty sold on their brand and also done a lot of research on the brand & both A & T series line of monitors, so this is what I'm leaning towards as of NOW.... Our new IN-5 is dead quiet when not being used. You won’t hear it even if it’s very close to you and your room is very quiet. And you’ll be able to handle sensitive applications like sound design with total confidence.

Taking up the space in between in the hero of the IN-Series: the 4-Inch, profile-optimized midrange driver. This driver has a lot of work to do. In addition to reproducing midrange frequencies, it also acts as the waveguide for the tweeter. This means that the shape needed to be precisely engineered to provide an ideal dispersion characteristic for the tweeter. Subjective listening was primarily at 1.5 meters. Subjective listening was conducted at 80-95dB at this distance. Higher volumes were done simply to test the output capability in case one wants to try to sit further away. In use, it’s remarkable. Monitoring in mono sounds like a pair of IN-5s collapse into a single phantom speaker sitting between them. Break out a mix to stereo and the clarity across the horizontal plane is incredibly precise. One way of knowing this accuracy can be credited to the coaxial mids and tweeter is how audibly the most solid imaging sits higher in the vertical sound field. The tight phase coherency of the point source design lends the IN-5 a ‘togetherness’ in tonal character; a firm, glued-together, assertive presentation of material. So, to the IN‑8 FuzzMeasure analysis I mentioned a few paragraphs ago. One thing I discovered straight away with the IN‑8 is that it produces slightly flatter frequency response curves when measured with the microphone slightly off axis (about 15 degrees). This 'flatter off-axis' phenomenon is not uncommon and is simply a result of the response discontinuities caused by diffraction from symmetrical cabinet features being averaged out by asymmetry. An example is the ridge around the IN‑8's mid–range driver. When measured with the microphone on the central axis the ridge appears to cause a discontinuity from around 8 to 12 kHz. But measured slightly off axis, asymmetry averages things out and suppresses the discontinuity. The T7v would be my minimum for an Adam, as the T5v only goes to 106 dB (103 for a single one I believe) which isn't low, but for some dynamic peaks it will be, and however it's handling distortion I don't like. The Devialet Phantom Reactor claims only 98dB but it doesn't sound as ragged when it's hitting that. Not only does this allow producers to create interesting spatial effects, but it means that you can work faster and with more confidence. An accurate soundstage lets you “see” each element of the mix in front of you, so you can hear exactly what happens when you make changes.Aesthetically: It's hard to believe that what I got is a demo version. So the subject of this review, Kali's new IN‑8, is one we've been anticipating with great interest, not least because, in contrast to the relatively safe and conventional nature of the LP‑6 (and its larger sibling, the LP‑8), the IN‑8 is significantly more ambitious, while still managing to hit a seriously competitive price.The E8XT is a big, powerful monitor that doesn’t overstep the mark. Simple to set up and, importantly, excellent value for money. Kali - I've heard great things about Kali IN's series but I'm not really knowledgeable on their line of monitors. Hiss: When sitting in the nearfield, approximately 1 meter away, I didn’t experience any issues with noise floor in my living room. When I put my ear next to the speakers, I notice the noise floor. But, in my opinion, this is a non-issue.
