The L.A.R chassis is essentially designed to give you more responsiveness through the heel when jumping and running, then compress and stabilize as you lift. I think you feel the chassis in action more for the former, and I don’t really notice it when lifting. New and improved” is sort of an understatement when it comes to the Nano X3. My only gripe with the Nano X3 for versatile training is that they do take a bit of time to break in which I’ve mentioned already in this article. I would not expect these to feel perfect the first time you wear them and I’d give them a week or two to feel better for this training style. The third thing to like about this model is its Lift And Run (L.A.R) chassis system. It took me a minute to appreciate this feature, but I think it’s a subtle and positive change for the Nano X3. I’ve had multiple athletes reach out about how they miss the 4mm heel-to-toe drop on the older Reebok Nano models and that they don’t like the new higher drop. If you’re in this camp, then you’ll want to pass on the Nano X3 as it still has a higher drop. The main changes from X2 to X3 are the unisex sizing, the L.A.R. Chassis in the midsole, and updated tread pattern. Otherwise, the shoes are pretty much the same—similar upper, similar lacing system, similar tongue, similar rope guard, and similar overall shape. The Nano X3 CrossFit shoes include some new features that set them apart from previous iterations. Namely, the trainers are largely being offered in unisex sizing, with some select women’s-only colorways (in women’s sizing). New this year, the Nano X3s feature a Lift And Run (L.A.R.) Chassis in the midsole. According to a press release from Reebok, this is a “new midsole technology built for stability when lifting and added cushioning for running and jumping.”

With rope climbs, durability can always be variable based on the rope you’re using and the rope climbing style you’re using, but I think most should be safer in this Nano X3 compared to the past two models. They are stable to workout in but they do have a solid cushioning system to last without your feet hurting. I would really like them to lower the price a bit so more people could enjoy them but overall my experience with them were great. Comparing and contrasting gym shoes is sort of my thing, so to see which sneaker slid into the pole position this year, I donned each silhouette for multiple weeks across a number of training disciplines. From free weight lifts like squats and deadlifts to CrossFit-centric movements and plyometrics, varying running routes and more, I put both the Metcon 8s and Nano X3s to the test to see which brand delivered the goods. Outside of training performance, I also noted other key qualities like durability, comfort and (of course) style. In the context of weight training, the Nano X3 provided a nice level of stability when squatting well over three plates and when deadlifting up to 500 lbs. If you have more than a thumb’s width, then go down a half-size! The flat, wide base gives you a great platform to weight train. I had multiple sessions of strict strength training and never was disappointed. The Floatride Energy foam gives the forefoot a nice level of bounce and I feel like the L.A.R also adds to this shoe’s springiness and its ability to feel comfortable during landing phases of jumps. The heel compresses a tad in this context, which I like.
