The 8007 is Philips' entry-level Ambilight TV for 2022. It offers a 4K 60Hz LED panel, Pixel Precise Ultra HD processing and three-sided Ambilight. Approximate width of the display. Featuring advanced Ambient Intelligence, the latest P5 processor monitors light levels in the room and adjusts the TV’s brightness, gamma and colour, in real time, to optimise the image. The processor also offers Eye Care, Dark Detail Optimisation and Colour Temperature Optimisation modes, for a bespoke viewing experience. The Philips OLED807 certainly has a lot of competition this year - but we’d say it has more than enough unique qualities to stand out from the crowd.Quite intuitive is not, in all fairness, the first phrase that springs to mind when considering the 807’s set-up menus. Not for the first time, and almost certainly not for the last, Philips has presented the end user with an awful lot of command and set-up options with this TV – and until you’ve investigated every single one of them, you won’t know if they’re essential (or even worthwhile) or not. Gamers will also be pleased to hear that unlike some Philips TVs of the past, the 55OLED807 keeps input lag low when running in its Game mode. Tests show a very respectable 15.1ms of lag with 1080p/60Hz sources, which more or less halves in 120Hz mode. Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying small white square taking up 60% of the screen (measured in Nits) Philips has stayed loyal to the Android TV platform for a few years now, so it won't surprise you to hear that the company's 2022 smart TVs get the most recent version – Android TV 11. This features both Google Assistant Built-in, via push to talk on the remote, and Works with Alexa compatibility. In its Game mode the 55OLED907 takes just under 20ms to render its images. That’s slightly higher than the 55OLED807, oddly, but slightly less than the OLED937. It’s also around double the number we’re getting now from some TVs, including LG’s OLEDs, but in truth only the most serious gamers will feel that this has a significant impact on their gaming skills. The set’s mid-range is wide and dynamic enough to deliver even dense action scenes with authority and conviction, easily avoiding the thin, hemmed in feel you get with big movie moments on so many TVs. The power and dynamic range that delivers this impressive mid-range performance also contributes to excellent detailing; a nicely projected sound stage that seems to exist well beyond the edges of the screen; and convincing, clear vocals.As ever with an OLED TV, every pixel in the OLED807’s screen can produce its own light, delivering massive local contrast benefits over even the best LCD TVs. The OLED panel in the OLED807, though, builds on this by being one of the latest so-called OLED EX displays, meaning that it has the potential to produce as much as 30% more brightness than many previous OLED TVs. It's a big deal in these days where HDR video is so widely available. The 5527 seems to be 32-inch version of the 5537 (above). The spec sheet points to one slight difference when it comes to audio output: a 10W mono speaker versus 6W stereo speakers.

This wouldn’t matter, of course, if you could just switch between picture presets and leave your involvement with the TV’s menus at that. As we’ve seen, though, consistently getting the best from the OLED807 means familiarising yourself with at least some parts of its picture adjustment menus. Crucially, outside of the spectacular but occasionally forced-looking Crystal Clear preset, there’s nothing gaudy or forced about the OLED807’s new brightness and colour achievements. The P5 processor deploys the extra capabilities of the new EX display with enough finesse and experience to ensure that it delivers nothing but positive outcomes. Philips also supports the HGiG system that lets you use set up menus built into your console to establish the best gaming HDR experience, rather than the TV trying to figure out on the fly how best to handle incoming HDR game graphics.

The Philips OLED707 has the same OLED panel, same 70W speaker system and same P5 AI processor as the flagship 807 (above). However, its Ambilight system is three-sided rather than four-sided.
