I won’t spoil anything but, upon discovering what that reason was, I found myself sad and melancholy as I read.

Both go by nicknames (Olive becomes Liv, and Carolina becomes Lina), and even these nicknames are pretty similar. As if I didn’t already want to visit Santorini badly enough, this book made me want to go even more!That diving scene was absolutely intense and I hated the feeling of panic that came with reading Liv’s point of view. The ending did make me feel emotional and I could see the outline of what was a beautiful story, however. Olive is swept away to Santorini after receiving a postcard from her estranged father asking for her help with a new project. Her dad was so sweet and she was like, not acknowledging his efforts, but sometimes I get what she's feeling. Dax had always been one of Julius’s main targets, and so far all attempts at a cease-fire had been met with resistance.

There’s a lot of pain, regret, and more serious issues that weave themselves through the story, so Theo provided some comedic relief and a lighter side to contrast with the darker one. She's losing herself, sacrificing things she enjoys, to spend as much time as she can doing what her boyfriend wants to do. This story isn’t just a love story between two teenagers, but it’s a love story between a father and his daughter, navigating their broken relationship through the tale of Atlantis. There’s nothing wrong with cheerleaders, but I’d gone from these books about magical worlds, secret gardens, and spies and suddenly, the magic was gone, and it was all about popularity.I mostly like to admire it from afar, but Dax was already talking to me about this rock formation he planned to swim out to, and I was already coming up with a long list of excuses as to why I would not be swimming out to said rock formation. while this did have that airy quality to it, especially surrounding the adventure to document finding atlantis and being in greece, there is a lot of heavy stuff going on in this.
