Not even death can stay the wrath of the Adepta Sororitas -- indeed, the blood of martyrs only strengthens the resolve of battle-sisters, spurring them to greater acts of heroism in the name of the honoured fallen.

Absolutely not. The comic is designed to be an introduction into the world of 40K, and by and large it does a very fine job. Is it a good book?

This is a spoiler-free review, though you can get the gist from the preview that much violence is to be had. GrØnbekk does well to explore the machinations of politics via some rather compelling and sometimes poetic captions. These drive the narrative via an unseen narrator, giving the comic an RPG feel. At its core, the heroes of this story are trying to figure out what is going on on Siscia and resolve the violence best they can. Make no mistake, in the Sisters of Battle omnibus, combat is front and center and everything else is window dressing. While it's common for game-related fiction to be little more than an exercise in bringing characters from one battle to the next, many manage to do it with more verve and vigor than this.

It’s just that it’s a little bit disappointing to read a story that, so far at least, feels very safe.The entire Imperium was gripped by an apocalyptic frenzy of doom and anarchy. Countless new sects sprung into being, many proclaiming that the God-Emperor was enacting His final judgement upon Mankind and that the end times were at hand. Rejoice the Fallen works great for standard Battle Sisters, but if you really want to punish your foe for their blasphemy, use it on a Retributor Squad to reply by unleashing a barrage of heavy weapons. Remember, every slain warrior brings you closer to benefiting from The Blood of Martyrs… If you know what WH40k is, but don’t know who the Sisters of Battle are, then save your time and don’t read this review.
