Murder mysteries are definitely on trend in the school library, and the children cannot get enough of them. And can I just say, the author narrating it was absolutely brilliant and he did a beyond stellar job. Sometimes detective stories for children may come across as being a bit bland, but this one is definitely a fun-filled read.

Bookwagon recommends Death at the Lighthouse to all dedicated readers who enjoy crime and humour in their reading choices. There are a host of interesting and suspicious characters on this strange island, but who is guilty and who is innocent? I liked the structure of this book - it reminded me of The Bolds in its layout, with the sketchy drawings and funny narrative. Together they'll interview some dodgy witnesses, scour the scene for clues and - above all - hope no one notices that Bonnie and Montgomery are never in the same room at the same time. The capers are great, and I enjoyed plunging into the nostalgia of watching Pirot when I was younger - the urge to don a bushy mustache, butcher an accent (I can't do any accent), and look for clues.Beckett-King's other creative stuff but judging by the reaction of my grand-children ( the age group for which it is intended ) it is a very successful piece of writing.

A madcap race around 1920s Paris to collect clues and ultimately bring down some truly despicable baddies. I think this is going to be a great series - there's a lovely hook at the end for the next one - and I look forward to reading more.And lo and behold, behind a locked door are three dodgy suspects, a dead man, and an empty space where a prized exhibit ought to be. As a fan of murder mystery novels, I appreciate the influences worn on its sleeve and the fun play on words. It is a strong first novel from the outstanding, talented man known to mny as the Interdimensional ABK. Like detective titles, such as Emily Lime Librarian Detective: The Pencil Case, for example, there is wry humour and rich enjoyment in this debut. There are also numerous illustrations throughout, from the map and cast of characters at the beginning to the highly detailed and enormously fun full and half pages scattered throughout.

This is the story of Bonnie Montgomery: a ten year old girl who puts on a false moustache and becomes Montgomery Bonbon, the great detective. Fastastic to see he can turn his talents to children's humour, which is quite a different animal to adult humour. Montgomery Bon Bon is going to become an iconic name in middle grade mystery if Beckett-King continues this series and let’s her (sorry I mean him) get their hands on more crimes to solve. The central mystery of Murder in the Museum is surprisingly layered for a book I assume is primarily aimed at readers 13 years and under.They’re so compelling and they really have you rooting for the main character and Bonnie was definitely one you could get behind. Bonnie Montgomery is on a trip to the Hornville Museum of Natural History and Suchlike with Grampa Banks when suddenly all the lights go out and a terrible scream is heard from the floor above. Wit and humour abound, there’s a plethora of puns, and at the same time, intrigue and high drama […] All this accompanied by Claire Powell’s delightful illustrations which help elucidate some of the clues. Suspects, clues, red herrings and secret identities are revealed with charm and so much personality.
