It seemed really obvious that Jacks was the Archer to me I love a good book that just keeps bringing in the plot twists.

From its very first page, Stephanie Garber's The Ballad of Never After offers up a perfect slice of romance, fantasy and adventure. Evangeline follows the sound of Chaos’s footsteps and watches as he kneels beside a row of people lying on the ground. But to y’all that saw my pre-review I’m sure you got a feeling of how emotionally unstable I was after this book. As the two spend more time together, Evangeline finds her resolve to keep him at arm’s length dwindling, and against her better judgement, she finds herself not only trusting but also caring for him.Given all of this, you cannot help but root for them as a couple and hope that they receive their happily ever after. Evangeline vehemently protests against this plan, but Jacks says her opinion is irrelevant and repeats she won’t remember any of this. I'd ask other characters to donate braincells to her but the other lot isn't much smarter and they definitely don't have braincells to spare. She is kept in the cage to keep her from biting a human and turning, and in the meantime, Chaos tells her he wants to open the arch, too. All he wants are the four stones needed to open if which he didn’t even need Evangeline to help him find them.

If her lifeless body had not confirmed it, then it would have been made clear by the horrible scream of the Fate who held her in his arms.I'm ngl, I kinda got mad when Evangline admitted she loves Jacks 😭 I think I'm mentally ill, because it's either that I'm jealous of a fucking fictional character, or I'm sad that the enemies to lovers is over.

But here I have to make a disclaimer that though I am forever team Jacks I couldn't help but notice the amount of sexy men in this book! Ever the optimist, she always sees the good in people, refusing to believe that anyone, Fates included, is ever wholly bad. And I know it doesn’t really make sense as to why he would have cursed him if he doesn’t even want to open the arch, but I think he new Apollo is a bad person and will hurt Evangeline. you can’t expect me to not kick my feet when he said “everyone should have their clothes ripped off of them at some point” where do i find men like this?I was also kicking my feet up all throughout the book with those moments — even the vulnerable ones. She wants to open it, hoping she’ll find a cure for her poisoned husband in the old magic books that are said to be kept behind it. She actually makes semi-rational decisions, but she also was apparently really dumb according to my updates where I said she was dumb like twice.
