It was great seeing Charlotte and Emerson again, and the bond of friendship between Emerson and Garrett. Most people maybe wouldn’t be tripped up by these inconsistencies, but I have a close family member who has BPD and it kind of felt like they were downplaying how severe this illness truly is. The spice is there but perhaps it just wasn't the *right* spice for me - I found myself rooting for Mia and Garrett throughout and I was definitely more intrigued by their backstory than I was with Emerson and Charlies.I seriously am riding a high, and writing this review and rereading quotes has me already wanting to reread it. I loved the taboo relationship we see, the sexual tension and the slow builds to firecracker climaxes. Now that I think about it, this entire book reads like a trope checklist with too much sex to fill the lack of character development. The only other queer character of note in this book is Drake, Garret’s best friend who’s known as a “manwhore” and “player” later surprises Garret by being bi/pan👀 so y’know just playing into every stereotype about bi people.

Even Garrett's mom has never understood him and his emotions and that is a very real problem many people with mental health issues face. I 100% relate to Mia and everything she is, seriously I have not related to character this deeply in so long.I was uncomfy with it in book one, but at least there Charlie talks about being attracted to her and there’s *some* allusion to her maybe exploring her sexuality?
