It’s always good to see this table around; just be sure not to roll those double 1’s for your heroes, or they will still turn into a spawn.

Huge swathes of the range are getting updated. First up, and cutting a mean-silhouette in their heavy armour and swirling capes, are the Chaos Warriors. This is a brand new multipart kit with new options, including a choice of hand weapons or halberds, an aspiring champion, a standard bearer, and a musician. While the Cities of Sigmar may offer an illusion of safety and civility within their walls, the truth is that the world outside is beset by uncounted roving tribes of bloodthirsty warriors who fight and scrap for their very survival. They are the most widespread human inhabitants of the Mortal Realms, and with the taint of Chaos permeating the land itself, they exist at the whims of the Dark Gods and their herald, Archaon Everchosen . We have no clue which “Scrodingers Knights” version is correct, as there are no update notes on their post. Death Dealer is just cool because of the classic Frank Frazetta art, and not to mention you get to fight again…If you roll a 11-12 you can choose to either replace your hero with a Daemon Prince (that retains all spellcasting, command abilities and artifacts/traits) or you can heal D3 wounds on the model. This is a huge flavor win and it’s great if your hero in question is a cheap Chaos lord on foot where it becomes a straight upgrade. On the other hand, there’s definitely a decision to be made if said Chaos Hero is one of the more expensive and killy varieties like a Chaos Lord on Karkadrak or Sorcerer Lord on Manticore. Slaves to Darkness also have some of the best, most resilient Battleline units in the game. Chaos runeshields protect against mortal wounds, and you have multiple ways to improve armour saves through Oracular Visions and the spell Demonic Power, among others. This makes the Hold the Line grand strategy a great choice for your army. A bonus to mention is the Warcry Cultists which used to be ignored but saw a slight improvement in Broken Realms: Morathi with an ability to gain Marks of Chaos in a specific subfaction which didn’t quite get them there. They finally crossed the finish line in White Dwarf which finally made them battleline if the mark matches your General which makes Iron Golemsand Spire Tyrants notable when marked with Nurgle and Khorne, respectively. Other Units We’ve been hearing about the new Chaos Warriors for what feels like forever at this point, but now we have some pictures! The daemonic mount can put out some okay damage, but a lord with 10″ movement is always a scary prospect!

You have some really great variety. A mix of old Warhammer Fantasy Battle stuff, new AoS models and gorgeous Warcry warbands there’s a lot here. From chaff to big monsters, its here and you can customize your pillaging and slaughter to your liking. Leaders Ellarr: A strong, strong choice (especially in Despoilers) which acts as a swiss army knife for your legion. He’s a close combat monster, a highly mobile skirmisher and depending on Mark has a fantastic Command Ability to boot. My favorite build for this unit is to give him the Mark of Nurgle and the Sword of Judgement from Malign Sorcery. The DP’s native +1 to hit on the turn it charged means on a hit roll of a 5 or more against a hero or monster, D6 mortal wounds are caused for each 5 or 6. Combine this with the Immortal Champion special rule that ensures it fights first and you have a monster of a duelist that you aim like a cruise missile at your opponents lynch pin heroes and combat monsters. All that and the extremely powerful CA for the nurgle DP and you have a fun, effective and versatile hero. Gaunt Summoner Warhammer Community unveiled one new mini for the kit so far, but also some of what to expect next. Let’s take a closer look.Varanguard also stays quite expensive at 290 for three models, which makes the Host of the Everchosen even better. Some of the best Centerpiece Models –You have both Archaon and the new Be’lakor model, both of which look absolutely gorgeous and are extremely powerful as well. Warriors who catch the attention of the gods may be presented with dark powers on the Path to Glory. These Exalted Heroes are armed with rune-etched weapons, tailor-made for taking heads and winning infamy. All four of the Grand Strategies are quite achievable, and the Battle tactics are also pretty doable. However, some might be hard for certain armies, as some will barely have three heroes or three units to charge! units chosen in any combination from the following list: Chaos Knights, Chaos Chariots, Gorebeast Chariots, Chaos Marauder Horsemen I believe there is untapped potential in this legion, simply because Dark Prophecy is a powerful ability – the question is simply why would you want to take the chance on this legion, when Despoilers gives you a far more broad toolkit while not anchoring you to an 800 point behemoth? The Knights of the Empty Throne unit chosen from the following list: Chaos Lord on Manticore, Chaos Sorcerer Lord on Manticore, Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount, Chaos Lord on Karkadrak, Chaos Lord or Chaos Sorcerer LordLord of Terror: Subtract 1 from the Bravery characteristic of enemy units within 6″ of this general. See my analysis of the Helm of the Oppressor above for reasons why this is a bad idea. F You’ll be able to buy the box towards the end of the year. Think of it as a spiky vanguard arriving ahead of the main force of iron and hooves slated for early 2023. Mighty Ritualist: When this general attempts to perform a Ritual of Sorcerous Might, that ritual is successful on a 2+. While this is unexciting, anything that improves your ability to consistently improve your spellcasting is very relevant so a strong consideration. A Even Be’lakor’s shadowy schemes must eventually break out into open warfare if he is to claim the power he so desires. His legions ride out under the banner of his mightiest champion, Eternus, Blade of the First Prince. This set also builds a generic Chaos Lord on Daemonic Mount.* Exalted Hero of Chaos

Other benefits: The Nurgle warshrine prayer allows reroll of wounds to a nearby unit, with a bonus +1 to saves if said unit is Nurgle marked – great if you’re mono Nurgle but if you’re not then praying to Chaos for rerolls to hits and wounds is outright better. Annihilating Charge –Re-roll charge rolls for friendly units wholly within 12″ of this general. Not bad, keep your Varanguard in a castle and help them all charge in together. B The Ultramarines draw their numbers from the 500 Worlds, all unified under the banner of Roboute Guilliman. Mark your XIII legion out with a set of subtly detailed Mark VI helmets and shoulder pads that bear the mark of Ultramar. Both sets are cast in resin. Plus, it looks like the Warcry Warriors are getting a permanent home in the Slaves To Darkness Battletome as well!Spotted on the Waaagh Studios, what looks to be a brand new Daemon Prince of Chaos is on the way along with new rules for Age of Sigmar as well! Meet the Soul Stalkers, followers of Archaon and Champions of the Dark Prince. These warriors are united in their cunning and ruthless hunting prowess. Drawn from several of the hunting tribes that seek their glory around the Varanspire, The Soul Stalkers are often sent after specific targets of key value by Archaon, where coordinated and precision strikes are required to bring their quarry down. Insidious destruction is guaranteed to follow in the wake of wherever this damned warband aims their verdant ire.
