In the game players take turns choosing domino-like tiles and adding them to their kingdoms. Like traditional Dominoes, each tile has one or two different ends, which in this case also show different landscapes, and possibly a number of crowns on it. [1] Choosing a tile with the most crowns gives a player last choice in the next round for choosing a tile, and vice versa - choosing the worst tile now ensures the first choice in the following round. [2]

Kingdomino: Duel ended up being one of those rare occasions where I actually prefer playing the roll and write version over the original. The game is fun, has some nice variety, and the smaller footprint makes it something I can easily take on the go. Sure the game isn’t deep, but as a filler game or a light family game, Kingdomino: Duel fills its niche quite well. Is there room in the roll and write universe for one more title? I think so. When the last dominoes are lined up, the players will take a last turn but they will only take the D 1 action. Kingdomino Duel is a two player roll and write. Each player takes a sheet of paper from the pad and this forms your map. Players take it in turn to roll four dice. The person who rolls gets first dibs and chooses a single dice. The other player gets to choose two dice leaving one remaining for the original roller. The dice are mentally conjoined to form a two-section domino tile that you must place on a map. You do this by drawing the symbols onto your player sheet. Kingdomino is a charming, colourful, tile-laying board game for 2-4 players. You are competing monarchs, acquiring rectangular 2x1 land tiles that have two different terrains on them – including lakes, mines, pastures and more. There are 48 tiles in total, and in theory, the more valuable tiles are the higher-numbered ones. Some tiles will have crowns on them – these are worth precious points. The game ends after 12 rounds (24 rounds in the two-player variant). Players then multiply the size of each continuous terrain by the number of crowns within it. Highest score wins!

When one player gains access to a wizard's power, their opponent strikes through their entire line to show that they can no longer access that power. Games last about twenty minutes and it never outstays its welcome. However, it is unlikely to get you on the edge of your seat. It is more likely to be enjoyed while drinking coffee on a Saturday morning with your partner. You will be interacting when choosing your dice and battling for the bonuses, but like many roll and writes you will be playing in quite an insular way for much of it.

Player A (the player who rolled the dice) has priority to fill out the spellbook at the end of a turn, so if both players finish a line on the same turn, then Player A is considered to have completed the line before Player B. If I’m honest, this introduction has gone in the wrong direction. When I started, it was going to be all about gentlemen duelling and instead I’m thinking about horses mating. So, I would like to move swiftly on to the review…Both players now have 2 dice which they combine together to form a single "domino" that will be added to their kingdom this turn.

Each player then pairs up their two dice and records the result on their kingdom sheet. One of the dice must be placed next to a matching coat of arms, and if a die contains an X symbol, it’s marked off in the circle on the space where the die is being recorded. If you can't add a domino to your kingdom fol- lowing these rules, the domino must be discarded and you will not get points for it.Dominoes must be placed so that at least one square of the domino is orthogonally adjacent to either another square of the same terrain type, or the starting tile. I also can’t stand the box art. It doesn’t match the artwork of the other games at all. But that is just my artistic tastes speaking. The End Of Origins Connect at least one of the symbols on your domino to a matching coat of arms already in your kingdom (drawn on a previous turn). Dominoes must be connected orthogonally (up, down, left, or right). Diagonal connections do not count.
