Unicorn NOT Wanted is the perfect solution for those who are tired of unicorns. It's also very fun to read out loud, although my dog was concerned about the waaaaaahhs. I think it’s charming and heart-warming with lots of bright, cheerful colors and funny lines. I think kids will engage with this story and want to hear it over and over. Such a funny picture book that DOES NOT include a unicorn and a pug. The story is lovely and entertaining. It follows a conversation between the narrator and two characters: a unicorn and a pug. They are both not allowed in the story! But will they take part in the end? And would we have another unicorn story? In Unicorn NOT Wanted, we find out the answer to that through colorful illustrations and a funny, sweet story of friendship and compromise. The unicorn and his pug friend are full of life and energy, creativity and persistence. It’s a crazy story that will offer kids humor, color, and giggles. I loved the unicorn and pug in this book. They were incredibly cute and so funny in their dialogue/emotions. This is a super clever story that I think kids will fall in love with. My Final Say: Kids will adore this book. Families will have a great time together as they read through this work. Librarians will rush to add this title to their story time hour. Lovers of kid lit will totally appreciate the ADVENTURE, DRAMA, ACTION, and...COWBOYS! (See what I did there? 😁) The illustrations are energetic and funny, and the unicorn and pug continue to insert themselves in the author's Wild West story in amusing ways. However, there have been so many meta children's stories like this in recent years that this one doesn't especially stand out, except for major unicorn fans and kids who, like the book's narrator, are tired of the unicorn trend.Unicorns *Not* Wanted offers a fun response to the current cultural obsession with unicorns. I really enjoyed the playful art style and the silliness of how the unicorn and pug disguised themselves in an effort to try to be included in the book.

I was excited to read Unicorn Not Wanted to them. The kids really did love it! They thought it was especially funny when Pug told Unicorn "You go, girl." The humor is just right for 8-9 year olds! My student pointed out what the author was trying to say...it's okay to stand out! Genghis Khan said he decided not to invade India because he met a unicorn that knelt down in front of him and then looked at him with slightly scary human eyes. He felt this was a clear warning sign sent from his dead father to get out and told his army to retreat. If this ever happens to you, go home - wherever you happen to be.
