Being a Eucon control surface, you get the deep DAW integration, for a range of DAWs and NLEs and flexibility in a versatile control surface designed for fast project turnaround. Plus, its price makes it an easier choice for freelance sound editors and mixers. The Icon Pro Audio QCon EX G2 is an extender for the QCon Pro G2 universal control surface. The QCon EX provides eight additional channels to your QCon Pro G2 system allowing you to expand in increments of eight to 16, 24, 32 up to 64 channels depending on your DAW with QCon EX G2 extenders. There are a number of different Operating modes available, selected via the Assignment buttons on the right of the unit’s fascia. In some modes, such as Pan, the LCD screen shows the name of each channel, and adjusting a rotary control will adjust the pan (or whatever) of the corresponding channel.

Meanwhile, the QCon EX G2 can be used either standalone — something that's not always possible with this type of controller — or to provide an additional bank of 8 motorised faders for your QCon Pro G2. Up to three QCon EX G2's can be added to the QCon Pro G2, giving you the ability to run up to 32-channels of touch-sensitive, motorised faders for comprehensive and creative control of your DAW. I have one question though, do you have issues with the pan knobs remembering their position? (not a deal breaker) All functions are immediately available without further configuration, and the DAW (here Logic Pro X) automatically recognizes the controller and can be operated remotely and immediately. It couldn't be easier. We would be interested in knowing if Mr. Moßgraber has any plans to include configurations for the Icon QCon Pro G2 in his software. Class-compliant with Windows XP, Vista (32-bit), Windows 7/8/10 (32-bit & 64-bit), and Mac OS X (IntelMac)Yet once you’ve played around with the G2s for a while, and become familiar with their foibles, they do really perform very well, and reduce massively the need to mouse around in your DAW which, after all, is the aim of the game. However, there remains one aspect of old-school studios that DAWs can’t deliver out-of-the-box: the immediacy and sheer tactility of working with the faders, knobs and buttons of a real, physical mixing desk. Some dismiss this as unimportant, or argue that the same results can be achieved using the extensive automation that DAWs are capable of, but I disagree. iCON QCon EX G2 Eucon: Originally developed by Euphonix, Eucon is a high-speed ethernet-based control protocol, which carries control information for faders, knobs and displays between control surfaces and whatever the main Eucon enabled application is in focus on your computer, such as Pro Tools, but not restricted to just Pro Tools. Any DAW that supports Eucon can benefit from the deeper integration offered with Eucon as opposed to HUI and MCU. A line of USB-MIDI controller options for your DAW, synth, editor, …whatever, using any devices’ preset maps or included mapping software. There are presets as well, so that connecting with DAWs such as Cubase, Nuendo, Logic, Live, ProTools or Studio One, (to name a few) is simple to set up. We have many different controllers large to small to fit your needs.

But if you're using Pro Tools, there's a strong chance you're running at least a semi-professional studio. Multiple Ravens can be used at once along with Slate’s Remote app for performing specific tasks in the Raven environment making this a cool modular system if touch is your preferred way of interacting with your DAW. Focusing on the main unit, the QCon Pro G2, I find that each of its eight channel faders is accompanied by a bank of four buttons that control the Solo, Mute, Record Enable and Selected/Active state of the corresponding DAW channel.

Reviews

Well, that's not exactly true. We tested the unit on a brand new, maxed out, 2019 iMac with the current versions of OS X, Reaper, and Logic Pro X installed. It does not work out of the box.
