Today, another batch of illustrations by PokéNatomy went viral on imgur, bringing even more Pokemon anatomy to life. The images are incredible, showing off the wonderful science and nature of the original 151 Pokemon. There’s so much potential for educational Poké content. Another artist, RJ Palmer, draws realistic Pokémon and even recently created new Pokémon based on evolution.There’s also Squirdle, a Pokémon Wordle variant. This entire project is actually an art project started by Christopher Stoll a few months ago, with the goal to help children learn about anatomy and biology. Kids usually relate well to pop culture and PokéNatomy anatomy helps fuel their interest and help them learn about human anatomy. What inspired you to do this project? Have you been interested for a while in the mix between the scientific and the fantastical? Have you ever wondered what Diglett looks like under the soil? Where Voltorb come from? How Ditto Transforms? Why Abra run? Or how Magnemite reproduce?” According to the author you can get answers to all of those questions through PokéNatomy. Looks like other characters coming to PokéNatomy Volume II include Steelix, Tyrano, Donphan, Espeon, Bellossom, and Togepi. There’s nearly 1,000 total, enough to fill many more volumes. Here’s hoping Stoll keeps up the good work and makes the comprehensive set.According to Chris, the original post on imgur went viral, resulting in hundreds of letters from teachers and parents who wanted to buy the illustrations to help their kids and students learn.

Now that we know how Poké Balls work, it may be hard not to consider these anatomical insights next time you’re playing Pokémon GO. If your kid is a Pokemon lover you should consider Pokenatomy as it is a perfect gift for science or biology oriented kids. Even if your kids hate biology (we hated biology), this could make them fall in love with it. The illustrations and notes are well written and interesting.

I’ve always had a love of biology and the natural world, and much of Pokénatomy’s inspiration came from my previous work, the anatomical art-book bestiary A Natural History of the Fantastic. It’s sort of Gray’s Anatomy meets Lord of the Rings, and lays out the biology and behavior of classic fantasy creatures like dragons, harpies, unicorns, and centaurs. We believe that if you are a Pokemon fan, you will have your own way of enjoying these stories and the characters involved. However, to get the maximum benefit, we advise you to watch the video attached with each of the stories. In case, you don’t get a word or two from the video, you can read the written version of the story and enjoy it in the best possible way.
