One thing the Flymo 300 scores slightly higher is the height adjustment. On the Flymo 300 there is a single lever on the top side of the mower with a large handle, this makes adjusting the height very smooth and easy. The height adjustment on the WG779E.2 is smaller and located towards the front of the mower. Adjustment seems to be that bit more difficult with the WORX and not so nicely balanced as with the Flymo. This is no big deal as you are not constantly adjusting the height but worth a mention anyway. This is the first cordless mower I have used and I was warned that the tech involved often makes them quite heavy. That certainly wasn't an issue and I found it easy to move around and take out of my small, cluttered outbuilding. If you’re looking for a cordless lawn mower that offers the ability to create stripes on the lawn then the WORX WG743E.1, unfortunately, won’t cut it. However, if this is the only downfall, we’re confident that it isn’t the end of the world.

It lets you choose to cut from anywhere between 20mm to 70mm with 6 separate cutting lengths. Just make sure you don’t set it at the shortest setting from the start when the lawn has significant growth, instead start at a higher setting and gradually work your way down. This gives the areas of small grass time to catch up with the long, resulting in a more even and healthy looking lawn. The Worx WG779E.2 34cm lawnmower uses two 2.0Ah 20V batteries simultaneously for extra power and runtime. With intellicut technology, the mower adjusts its speed and power to grass condition therefore providing constant cutting power. Six height settings give you the cut you want, all with the ease of a single lever cutting depth adjustment. Intellicut technology adjusts speed automatically with different grass conditions so it keeps consistent cutting efficiency in dense grass. Furthermore, the addition of the carry handle means that moving the mower from one end of the garden to the other is effortless. For example, the 20mm setting is one of the lowest settings on any mower, meaning an incredibly close cut to the lawn. While it is recommended to use this setting all the time, people that mow frequently during peak growing season can use this setting to produce a neat and tidy cut close to the ground, like on an ornamental lawn. Want your garden to look like a freshly cut football field? A rear roller produces a striped effect – gently flattening the grass for a well-manicured result. Cordless means poor battery life, right?

Furthermore, the WORX WG743E.1 boasts an edging ability that truly is second to none – never again will you have portions of uncut grass around the perimeter of the lawn.

The chargers will also run diagnostics on the battery and this is handy if for some reason the mower stops working. You can put the battery in the charger and a green light means it is charging (flashing) or fully charged (steady). A red light indicates an issue such as the battery overheating or being defective. If defective, the charger will attempt to repair the battery and continue to charge. Failing that, the Worx tech team are happy to help troubleshoot by phone. What features and settings does the Worx 40V Cordless Lawn Mower have? Metal blades are generally sharper and provide a cleaner cut to the grass blade, resulting in a neater, tidier and superior finish to your lawn and garden. The metal blade on the WG779E.2 can be sharpened when needed unlike plastic blades. Do you like a striped lawn? Well the WORX does have a roller at the rear that gives that lovely striped look to your lawn. The roller also has suspension allowing it to adapt better to the contours of your lawn. This is another advantage over the Flymo 300 – if you like striped lawns that is! On the whole, you’re getting a pretty decent mower with the WORX WG743E.1 and it’s difficult to see that there are many cons to report. However, if you are looking for a downside, this could be that there is no roller for creating a stripy lawn – if that takes your fancy. When mowing, the WG779E performed excellently on my medium-sized garden, its cut-to-edge design allowing me to get closer to fences without digging out my strimmer afterwards.There are six settings that range from 2cm to 8cm, but what is most interesting is that this adjustment can be made with a single easy to adjust lever – nothing makes a product more appealing than ease-of-use. The Worx WG779E.2 comes with a dual charger and two 20V batteries. Depending on where you buy it, these batteries will be either 2.0Ah or 4.0Ah and we were supplied with the 4.0Ah battery pair. Both will result in the same power, but the 4.0Ah battery will mean you can work at high power for longer.

If you’re conscious about how eco-friendly your tools are then you’ll be pleased to discover that this product gives off zero emissions and even better, its ultra-quiet function means that noise pollution is kept to a minimum too. There are six height positions to choose from, with the minimum being 20 millimetres while the highest is 70 millimetres. You can start at a higher setting and go down as you progress so that small grass will not miss a piece of the action. WORX WG779E.2 Cutting Diameter I even spotted a roller at the rear for those who want a striped effect — I’ll leave it to you more confident mowers to test that one out! If there’s a negative, I’d say the Worx WG779E does become sluggish over long, wet grass, even with the reinforced axels, which can cause clogging in the collector. But overall, I found it to be a reliable, affordable cordless mower that is easy to use and store. Pros As mentioned before, you can use Turbo or Eco modes to cut your lawn. I have used both and find the Eco mode is sufficient for regular summer cuts. I think I might need Turbo for the first cut after winter and would use it for cutting meadow-like lawns. Having not tested this mower on wet grass, I can't say how it performs, but based on the first mow (of a rather unruly lawn) I don't think it will struggle too much. The grass collection box has a hard top for durability and cloth mesh sides for improved air circulation (better collection) and enabling the box to fold flat for reduced storage. Practicalities

The motor produces a gentle hum, which is much less jarring than the sound of a petrol mower. This makes it a more pleasant experience for the user and any nagging neighbours within earshot. No specific noise-reducing features are built into the mower, but the cordless technology replaces any typically whirring engine. Durability At 34cm the steel cutting blade is suitable for small and medium lawns, although we think it works best in smaller areas up to 200m2. The blade is premium quality steel that is razor sharp, producing a pristine cut that leaves the grass looking good while encouraging healthy regrowth.
