Wild animals in your house sound like fun but find out more in this fun story that helps children learn the sounds and spelling of ere, ear, ier, air, are. Or, at least, he has written something in the grand tradition of Seussian spiels, of paragraphs of absurd ideas strung together with a central theme.

I would have preferred to read them in their original form (translated to English), but feel this graphic novel format didn't suit them or give the reader the impact of their full potential. When I Grow Up: The Lost Autobiographies of Six Yiddish Teenagers by Ken Krimstein is a difficult book, for me, to review.

So, beyond the fact of the historical and human importance of this collection, as the voice of some ordinary teenagers that, for the most part, didn't have the opportunity to have a future and a normal life, 'When I Grow Up' ends up being quite monochromatic on its art and narrative, and I'm ashamed to say I didn't really get emotionally invested on it.

So much can be done with this book with classroom assignments since the word choices are so outstanding, and the entire thing is one huge poem, but it can just be read as a hysterical poem as well. When I Grow Up is the song from Matilda the Musical that makes the butchest grown-ups weep with its message of uncynical hope. Children envision all the things they will be able to do and experience, once they are grown up, those very things that will provide them with the knowledge and qualities that define what it is to be a grown-up in the first place, at least in a child's eyes. Sarner’s effort to tease out the many strands of this conundrum is a noble if not wholly successful enterprise.That this book exists is a miracle: originally written for a contest in 1930s Eastern Europe (in what is now Poland and Lithuania), these six essays were among hundreds hidden from the Nazis multiple times and eventually discovered in a church organ in 2017. Dollars in 2021) was to be awarded on September 1, 1939, the day the Nazis invaded Poland and World War II began. The fact that this book exists is a miracle, and the stories that are contained within it are magical, and I encourage you to read it for yourself.
