The story's depiction of Gotham and darker, realistic, mature and more grittier tone and direction, compared to other contemporary Batman comics at the time, has also been acclaimed. Selina Kyle is present, but Miller infamously overhauled her origin to make Selina a prostitute inspired by batman's vigilante actions. One of the only disappointing aspects of the story is that Selina's role doesn't amount to more in the end. The conclusion is also a bit underwhelming relative to the rest of the book. But neither of these complaints do much to diminish Year One's status as a gripping and highly influential Batman drama.
