This Dystopia falls somewhere between the Orwellian world of 1984 and the Ayn Rand vision of future events as presented in Atlas Shrugged. The world has fallen into “Sections” of countries which are engaged in almost perpetual states of war with each other. Ordinary citizens work in factories designed for the production of military armaments and other industries designed to support the military complex which prevails. This was both a fast read and a slow burn. Kevin Taylor wins a case as a defense attorney, for a very unlikable client. A lesbian school teach is accused, by a young girl, of inappropriate touching. Kevin tears the girl apart on the cross examination. He felt unstable during the case...and he was. Thinking he will be offered a partnership now he instead is told he should find someplace better suited. His case may have just tarnished the firms lily white reputation. The Devil’s Advocate is the 6th book in the Eddie Flynn series featuring the ex-con man turned brilliant defense attorney. He, along with his ever-growing team of professionals, are charged with leaving New York City and taking a small-town Alabama courtroom by storm. This is a story that’s designed to get your blood boiling as injustice is piled upon racism flat-out criminal behaviour. It’s yet another stunner that continues to mark the series as one of the best modern legal thriller series out there. The language is not as convoluted and condescending as you'd expect from anything with the words "Spry" and "Polemic" in its title. And although it wouldn't, in my opinion, qualify as 'lay-proof', there isn't any elegance missing in Mr. Morley's delivery. He keeps you engaged throughout the entire work, a word-smith in his own right. Gently, Karan also chose to drop in sly comments that reflect on the scenario of India’s politics today. The line (mentioned in context of the timing of when Indian politicians choose to give interviews), “When in trouble, they become invisible” spoke volumes beyond the context he mentioned it in, which in beautiful fashion builds slowly throughout the book and weaves into a broader commentary on the congeniality that underlies the world of journalism, policy, diplomacy and politics that he transverses through.Randall Korn , also called as “ King of Death Row” is Eddie’s biggest challenge till now in his whole career. The guy has a weird fascination with death penalties and the fact that he has never lost a case and has sent more people to death row than any other district attorney in history (115 convictions in 17 years) is really insane and intimidating. Kudos, Mr. Cavanagh, for another great piece. A crowded genre, for sure, but your storytelling abilities help you stand out in the crowd!

For his interviews, I felt he went in without preparation- he had no strategy, the 'how' is as important as the 'why' while seeking answers. In retrospect, he admits “In fact, the truth is—sadly and foolishly, I did not know this at that time! " Given its subject matter and general plot I thought I'd really like this book. But, I didn't. It is a story about an attempt to bring down a horribly tyrannical future U.S. government. My fundamental problem is that the whole approach to how the good guys were going to do this seemed really unrealistic. (I won't put in a spoiler about how it all turns out.) I just couldn't get past it and suspend disbelief, so the story never pulled me in.

However, his recounting of the interactions with former Prime Ministers - PV Narasimha Rao, VP Singh and Chandrashekar were very telling, and unfortunately (as in their political careers), were overlooked by the media and political commentators.
