With the release of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny on DVD, Blu-Ray, and 4K on the horizon, fans still have plenty to look forward to. Once again, it was a day one purchase of the quadrilogy on Blu-ray, and yet again I swore that I would review it this time. So when the cold sets in (or the heat, for fans in the Southern Hemisphere), the holidays approach, and an escape is needed from the tedium of the everyday, fans will have a chance to sit down and revisit these classic films. The ultimate annoyance for me is that the fourth film looks nothing like the first three, over-processed, digitally graded, and neutered visually till it’s a sepia artwork, not a living breathing feature film. Marvel Comics began publishing The Further Adventures of Indiana Jones in 1983, and Dark Horse Comics gained the comic book rights to the character in 1991. I won’t discuss the films themselves here; I plan to review each one for A Certain Point of View, Too in the future, but I will say this: as much as I like the existing quartet, including the much maligned Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Raiders of the Lost Ark is my favorite film. Indy (Harrison Ford) and his feisty ex-flame Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen) dodge booby-traps, fight Nazis and stare down snakes in their incredible worldwide quest for the mystical Ark of the Covenant. Once the movie was available on streaming services, its viewing numbers rose, proving that fans are still eager for Indiana Jones stories.

In a world of franchise fatigue, where film series are continued long past their sell-by dates, so that Die Hard 4. If I put Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade on, then the film owns me completely for the next two hours.
