I am not a big Tennis fan but did enjoy watching Wimbledon back in the days of Borg, McEnroe and Connors. I enjoyed this autobiography and feel really honoured to review it through my membership of NetGalley. Now on the WAT tour (Women's Tennis Association) and with some great wins behind her, Sue is back in France playing at Roland Garros, one of the four Grand Slam tournaments most revered in the world. She reveals the battles she fought for hard-won success in two careers and gives us a ringside seat on the nation's biggest sporting dramas and a fascinating insider's understanding of competitors under pressure.Luckily she won the junior championship there, but she hid herself away the night before because she had no money to pay for a room in the hotel. It is then that her second career started and she became a sports commentator, not only for tennis but other sports too: Royal Ascot, Olympics, London Marathon, Commonwealth Games, World Athletics Championships, Winter Olympics Championships, BBC Sports Personality of the year and many more. Not especially scandalous or introspective, it is a breezy stroll through her tennis career but heavier on the tv career probably. I’d imagine she would be fun in the bar with her stories and she definitely would have an opinion on most players and their game.

Going all in for her once-only autobiography, Sue takes us inside the showbizzy world of 70s and early 80s tennis, dating the stars, hitting the headlines. I hadn't realised just what a good player she was and how many Tournaments she won; also her Broadcasting career was second to none covering all the major sporting events and some non-sporting, in a career lasting thirty years. I loved the honesty, the humour and the insight into the tennis life, the presenter life and the private life.

During her tennis career she won fifteen WTA singles titles, including a Grand Slam - the French Open in 1976, aged 20. I have enjoyed watching Sue Barker present the Wimbledon fortnight and initially on Question of Sport.
