Pero bueno volviendo a lo que tenemos entre manos, nos encontramos con grandes historias como el retorno al crimen de Kingpin, la propia Elektra, la Mano, los ninjas blancos, Stick, Viuda Negra, Punisher, Bullseye y el gran final demoledor de la ruleta rusa donde en unas pocas paginas se deconstruye (toma ahí) todo el genero de los superheroes. The writing was fairly dated for the first 5 or so issues (especially the overly expository thought bubbles) but once Miller starts to take over story duties from Mackenzie the prose and plotting improves measurably. Una vez que Miller se pone al mando del guión, ya desarrolla arcos mucho más extensos y complejos, con personajes con motivaciones complejas que no necesitan pensar y o decir lo que van a hacer antes de hacerlo en plan "oh no, ese asesino va a asesinar bien asesinada esa dama en apuros, debo pararlo con mis bastones, si lo lanzo en este ángulo le dará al cubo de basura, a la escalera de incendios y al gato negro costroso comiendose una raspa de pescado y lo detendrá" y acto seguido, el siguiente panel nos muestra esto. A classic superhero run with fluid and well framed action, tight storylines, and some surprisingly tactful characterization. The (maybe unintentionally) comical Otto Octavius might be an apt antagonist for a hero adequately adored by five-year-olds, but not for someone at war against social and political scheming in the underworld. Yes, there are violent scenes and some iconic characters getting stabbed, but it's levelled out nicely with humour and good story. Characterization is also a bit mixed for me with some characters being rather one dimensional (Foggy, Bullseye) while others are more well rounded or intriguing.

Frank has yet to figure out that all he needs are panels shaped like screens: no necessity to draw a complete tv set six times in a row. Lee's run still loomed large over this, though once Miller got up to speed with his own natural style coming through, things picked up, and we were treated to some spectacular artwork, and some enthralling stories to boot.

The template was to have the hero meet the villain and for the villain to go to jail after a bit of a romp. This is Miller at the beginning of his career, and if you're familiar with his work, the seeds of what would come are sewn here.I also really enjoyed the lettering techniques, especially when used as background, communicating onomatopoeias in a way that doesn't distract from the foreground interactions. A tumour in Bullseye's brain may be responsible for the further degradation of his mental state, as explained to Daredevil and to us by a sexy oncologist. A minor issue, plotted around the goofy looking character of the Gladiator, a leftover of the pre-Miller era, when Daredevil was fighting a rouge gallery of buffoons. A estas alturas de la vida no voy a descubriros el Daredevil de Frank Miller, pero como me hice de autoregalo por navidad este omnibus americano, que recoge el momento en que Miller se puso al frente de la colección, primero como dibujante y después como guionista, pues habrá que hacerle al menos una pequeña reseña.

Bohužel je to z doby, kdy o "show don't tell" v komiksech nikdo neslyšel a na spoustě míst je to vidět dost bolestivě. Yeah, I'm a DD, Miller and Janson fanboy - but many many people agree with me: DareDevil 158-191 and The Dark Knight 1-4 (Miller/Janson's next project) are amongst the best comics ever written -'nuff said! otra colección camino a la cancelación por ser una tontunada como tantas otras, por ejemplo spiderman (torta gratuita, sip).

Action in particular is wonderfully fluid and dynamic, rivaling work by Tezuka in it's use of cinematic composition and movement. Miller re-defined the presentation of comic book characters and heroic fiction with his grand-daddy of graphic novels, “The Dark Knight. On the back, a shadowy stylised figure, not much more than a silhouette, representing where - who knows how consciously or unconsciously - Miller's hand wanted to go, and will go from Ronin on. The Man Without Fear is born and reborn in this second collection of Frank Miller's finest, paired with the industry's top artistic talent! I could go on for ages, but the whole fantastic run is here; to sit with a beer and re-read the whole Elektra/Stick/Claw/Stone/Hand/Kingpin saga again and again is simply a joy.

Anyhow, as you can see from the image above, Deedee's cultural insensitivity pays in a pivot moment, so all's well what ends well. Frank Miller's run on daredevil is one of those legendary runs that you hear about as a comic book fan. Waiting for that moment when I needed a guaranteed winner to wash the taste of mediocrity out of my mouth. I was never a huge fan of Daredevil but since I've started collecting the recent stuff by Mark Waid (which is excellent by the way) I felt I finally needed to get this omnibus and explore what I was told was some of the best stories and art in comics history. You can still figure out what the characters are saying and those missing words are very few (two to three words in the whole book IIRC).The run finishes with the 11 issue arc following the lost DD coping with Elektra's death and wanting revenge on her killer, the Zenith is reached in 191 (in my opinion the best comic book ever printed) where DD plays Russian roulette with a quadriplegic Bullseye.
