Students must undertake a substantial design and make task and produce a final prototype based on a context and design brief developed by the student. Taking the task In year 12 opportunities will be given to practice crucial coursework skills including workload management, sketching and visual communication techniques, modelling, research skills, product analysis, creative designing and some practical skills. Knowledge will also be built on topics such as manufacturing processes theory, materials and their properties and relevant mathematical concepts. Students will apply these skills and knowledge through small projects, tasks and exam questions. Demonstrate their higher thinking skills to solve problems and evaluate situations and suitability of design solutions.

In our modern and developing Design and Technology facilities, you'll apply technical skills to test and create 3D models of products through various design approaches including hand sketching, CAD and 3D model making including laser cutting and 3D printing.

Apply their knowledge, understanding and skills of designing and manufacturing prototypes and products to given situations and problems Undertake case studies to demonstrate their understanding of wider social, moral and environmental issues that impact on the design and manufacturing industries. The A Level Design and Technology specification is designed to develop learners’ subject knowledge, including how a product can be developed through the stages of prototyping, realisation and commercial manufacture. Significant complexity or challenge is involved throughout the production of prototype(s).
