Most players will step into the shoes of LAPD homicide detectives, hungry for glory and willing to do whatever it takes to close a case, even if that means intimidating suspects, concealing evidence, and hiring snitches to rat on their fellow detectives.

The reason being is the Chisel is pretty much acting like a Gamemaster and is just making sure everyone is having a good time. Detective: City of Angels, set in the dark and violent world of 1940s Los Angeles, is a game of mystery, deception, and investigation for 1-5 players. If the Detective does not have knowledge of the weapon or suspect they cannot use them in their guess. Each detective will hand the Chisel a leverage token that the Chisel will place on their Chisel board. Officer- Pay three scratch to the bank to look at a lettered case card that another Detective has a knowledge marker on.In this variant, the detective still challenges the suspects, but an incorrect guess will result in stress. In truth, this is really for a solo play as it involves asking questions and using the Sleuth Casebook which is just a book field with responses to questions being asked. When Billy O’Shea insists that the victim was a regular at Topsy’s Nightclub, is he telling the truth or is The Chisel subtly leading the detectives toward a dead end that will cost them precious time?

If they wish to move to another district, one move action is used to move them to a boarder between two districts, and then another move action is spent to move into that new district.You and your fellow detectives, if you choose to play with them, will solve several crimes that take place throughout the city, using a very cool game system to gather evidence and interrogate witnesses. It is still massive amount of fun as playing solo means that the player will get to experience the case, and then later be the Chisel and allow other players to experience the case. Detective: City of Angels, set in the dark and violent world of 1940s Los Angeles, is a game of mystery, deception, and investigation for 1–5 players. Challenge incorrectly, however, and you'll end up taking on stress tokens, which can shorten the amount of time you have to solve a case. Detectives can challenge responses that they think are lies but at great risk: If they’re wrong, The Chisel will acquire leverage over them, making the case that much harder to solve.

Detective: City of Angels offers a great time for solving a crime that offers some genuine deduction. Kickback- If the Detective is at a "mob joint" location they can receive "protection" money equal to the number of players playing the game (Chisel + Detectives). Nothing is more satisfying than correctly challenging a tough witness, and nothing is funnier than watching a player repeatedly failing to recognise that the sweet old lady next door really doesn’t know anything! The Chisel will win the game if all of the detectives lose, so it is in the Chisel's best interests to misdirect the detectives as cleverly as possible. They will read the case that was chosen to play for the game as the Chisel casebook explains who committed the crime.Detectives can explore every shadowy corner of the City of Angels, rendered in gorgeous and authentic detail on a massive 33x21 inch game board. If players pass they do nothing, and players that bribed pay three money and get to see the response to the question that was asked.

Detective: City of Angels comes with nine cases, varying in difficulty from Gumshoe (easy) to Hardboiled (hard). At times, it almost feels like a tabletop RPG, and like many RPGs, it can live and die on the Game Master. We messed up here and there but the cases are written in a very engaging way so we don't feel frustrated because there's always some thing interesting to learn. Most players will step into the shoes of LAPD Homicide detectives that will do whatever it takes to solve the case, but one player will take on the role of The Chisel whose goal is to stall and misdirect the detectives at every turn. As well as some thematic script, these briefings will include important information which can give the detectives a head start in their investigation.I love detective games in general, but this one might be my favorite yet (although I will always be a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective ). It is also possible to play the game cooperatively, either against the Chisel or against a gamebook that simulates the Chisel. Each detective will now receive an investigation sheet that they will fill out with their suspects on the left side going down and lettered case cards going across the top. If the Detective does not use any Leverage, the Chisel may use Leverage they have against the Detective to block their questioning.
