Description

A solitary church situated at the end of a narrow lane in deepest Oxfordshire. The church is said to be haunted by a woman in grey who wanders the graveyard. Curiously most of the sightings of her ghost are said to occur on misty or foggy days. On several subsequent occasions, she again saw the clergyman by the church, yet every time she returned to look at the building, he was nowhere to be seen and the church was appeared empty. The young woman was by now becoming a little curious about the vicar’s behaviour. On her next walk, she decided if she saw him she would go over immediately and introduce herself.

His host, however, did not care for the room saying “there was something queer about it, it gave her the creeps”. When the investigation and seance was completed, the ghost hunter informed the Vicar that whatever malevolent force was haunting the vicarage was laid to rest and would trouble him no more.Eventually, people refused to go near the churchyard after dark. Other locals pledged to guard the vicar and held vigils outside his house. This led to several skirmishes between locals who often didn’t or couldn’t recognise one another in the dark. All opening times can be found here, but it’s usually open from 12pm to 11pm, Thursdays to Saturdays. But as he did so he says he had the impression of walking straight into the embrace of a naked invisible woman. The Estate was then bought by a man who failed to make a success there and drowned himself in a sluice pipe.
