I do wonder if they've compromised the lens slightly from a pure photography point of view, to cater it more to the video/vlogger market. This is probably a smart move, but I hope the photo IQ is still good. It's a small, light 1.4 - even compared to the benchmark 35GM - so it could be compared with the 1.8s as well as 1.4s. Apochromatic lenses have special lens elements (aspheric, extra-low dispersion etc) to minimize the problem, hence they usually cost more. Wide open corners are somewhere between good and very good, you gain a little bit more of fine details at F1.8 but honestly vignette covers a lot of it anyway.

Small but mighty, the Samyang AF 50mm F1.4 FE II is a really nifty fifty

Autofocus cameras have been around since 1977, so it might seem strange that Zeiss is still doggedly making manual-focus lenses. However, the range of Milvus prime lenses certainly gives a hands-on, feel-good factor.

So what if we somewhat unfairly compare it to the far more expensive Planar lens? The MTF suggests a win for that lens, but is that what we find?
