There’s always the other side of the coin, and one could say that exploring a bit more of the PCs childhood could help build their character and make players more attached to playing as them. There's a lot more to him than anyone knows and there's a reason why he prefers to give Jayne the floor and applaud her achievements from the sidelines. The opinions stated in this review are mine and mine alone, I was not paid or requested to give this book a certain rating, suggestion, or approval.

However, I do think this story (Jane/Hadrian backstory) needed to be told before Nero and Trajen's stories. I’m glad there’s going to be one more book because I don’t know how JLA was going to wrap everything up in the 3rd.You will notice a lack of backgrounds in several panels, but Mazzara fills the panels so well with figures in motion that the lack of backgrounds doesn’t take away from the overall look of the issue. At this stage I don’t think I’ll be switching the prologue around - but any further childhood memories will happen in flashbacks. Though to be honest I would start at the beginning of the entire The League series to help a new reader understand everything and where all the characters interrelate and interconnect. DRAGONS, THRILL, INTRIGUE, MYSTERY, ADVENTURE, ARRANGED MARRIAGE AND FORBIDDEN LOVE WHAT ELSE DOES A GIRL NEED IN THIS STORY. While I loved the book as Jane is one of my favorite characters in this series I felt like this read more like a short story instead of a vital part of the series.

I think you could be right there - at one point I changed the transitions so it had the passage of time at the top of the page in bold - then I scrapped it but maybe something like that would be less jarring?

It seems like things might work out between them if it weren’t for the harsh demands his father is making. I understand that you've been going for the ringer but Jayne and Hadrian deserved a little more maybe a tad more backstory Jane is an intrical part of all the books from the nyk all the way to bastion's book. Kudos to McQueen (Kenyon) for giving us another story that pulls us away from all we need to escape while giving us a clear view on what matters most. Interestingly Nyk is connected to them both through Syn and Jinx respectively, we also get Hauk going his TAM bullshit 🙁. At least we had the two Eve of Destruction stories leading into it, but this is not as long as the average League novel.

Trapped in a foreign court, surrounded by enemies, Kalina must decide the fate of her people as well as her own future before it’s too late. The only criticism I would have is the part where you swap pov to the two girls, a bit jarring, maybe I missed something that makes it more relevant than I perceived it to be, but it just felt out of place in the moment at least. Eves sister is the fmc in this book and also the mmc is one of the main side characters in the original series younger brother this was short and still touched base on the world we already know heaps about.
