Presented in a resin and stainless steel case with a similar square shape to the original DW5000C from 1983 the design features a new stainless steel bezel, which both adds to the durability of the watch and gives it a new premium aesthetic while still keeping the cost and weight down. Like its brothers in arms, the GBX-100 has multiple functional displays that take full advantage of the the high-resolution display.

The main time mode screen is easier to read than Bathtime for Biscuit. The date (month/day) appears in a smaller font in the upper right corner, large enough to read with my unaided 56-year-old eyes. The Tide and Moon Phase calculator is presented in three different display modes. The Tide calculator is available in a 12-hour or a 24-hour graph format. The tide display includes the moon phase and sunrise/sunset times in a smaller font. There’s also a dedicated moon phase display that includes sunrise and sunset times.The simplicity of the physical design makes for a lightweight and comfortable timepiece. Further, the watch sets itself and offers a number of actually useful features that are easy to access. I love the blend of modern tech, and the new steel bezel elevates the watch’s aesthetic and durability — without adding much cost or weight. The G-Lide really makes an argument for resin watches with some steel, at a time when Casio is pushing the much more expensive all-metal variants. Time Functions: Digital hour / minute / seconds, date, day, stopwatch (1-sec), countdown timer, Four daily alarms with snooze, 12 / 24 hour format, World Time (29 time zones / 38 cities), hourly time signal, auto-light. At the same time, if you feel like you can do without the surf-exclusive features, then GBD 200 is still a great choice and will serve you well in pretty much any situation. Tide information and sunrise/sunset times for about 3,300 locations around the world can easily be set using the dedicated app. The fitness calculator is the GBX-100’s other major feature. It has various functions, including timers, goals, stopwatch, etc.

The watch measures 50.9 x 46.0 x 14.7 millimeters and weighs 66 grams, which is somewhere between the size of a DW-5600 (48.9 x 42.8 x 13.4) and GX-56 (55.5 × 53.6 × 17.5), but lighter than the GX-56’s 88 grams. From what I’ve gathered from watch forum chatter, none of the Casio step-counters are accurate. Word on the street: if you’re serious about using a fitness calculator on your wrist, get a “real” wearable like the models offered by Garmin. As mentioned above, this watch does receive notifications but it’s not intended to take the place of a full-fledged smartwatch such as Casio’s new Move watch, or an Apple Watch, for instance.

Firstly, the watch wears slightly bigger since its rectangular case diameter is 50,9. Because of the larger stature, the watch is also a bit heavier, weighing 66g. Another difference worth pointing out in terms of the exterior is the material of the bezel. While Casio GBD200 is fully made from resin, this model features a stylish stainless steel bezel that makes the design a bit more sophisticated. It’s a smartwatch Jim, but not as we know it. To read a text from my son required six button pushes. No matter how many times I pressed the buttons I couldn’t reply. After half a day of being more connected to my phone than I wanted to be, I turned off the notifications. The battery life is once again outstanding and it can last up to 2 years. Casio GBX 100 vs GBD 200 (Verdict) Even with only, basic notification coming from the phone the watch does send info to the Move App, whether iOS or Android, such as surf and training data, and you can even set goals within the App. And you can set surfing spots and other features and send them to the watch via the Move app. So the watch does communicate in a two-way nature, just not as far as phone notifications which are one-way only.All the data can be viewed on the watch’s display or on your smartphone, using the Mobile link feature that pairs the two devices via Bluetooth connection. Movement Revealed at Casio’s Spring & Summer New Product Exhibition, the GBX-100 is a surfing-oriented watch with Bluetooth smartphone connectivity, high/low tide times, tide levels, and sunrise/sunset times, along with the traditional tide graph and moon age display. In terms of the screen, GBX 100 uses the same MIP display as its predecessor. So, you can expect the same high level of contrast and clarity in both bright sunlight and complete darkness. Also the quality of the glass is equal – both models feature mineral crystal glass.
