Other than doing some simple tests, I haven’t had the need to switch from Auto Focus (AF) into Manual Focus (MF).

I've been shooting with the new Olympus 100-400mm over the past couple of weeks, so let's jump right in to see how the new Olympus 100-400mm lens performs. With the lens hood attached and the zoom retracted to 100mmm, the lens is very similar in length to the 300mm prime. For flowers, I found myself stopping the lens down to F10 to F14 since depth of field is so narrow when shooting so close. Long telephoto lenses, especially for full-frame cameras, can easily tip the scales at well over five pounds and can approach almost two feet in length with their big lens hoods.Bokeh is a word used for the out-of-focus areas of a photograph, and is usually described in qualitative terms, such as smooth / creamy / harsh etc. But the lens becomes extremely difficult to handle, and the tiny aperture means there’s precious little fine detail to be seen. The super-telephoto focal lengths do, on the other hand, help create a shallow depth of field and good subject isolation, but given the smaller sensor area of Four Thirds and the narrow apertures of the 100-400mm, in many situations, you can't get that super smooth and "creamy" background blur like you could with, say, a 500mm f/4 or 600mm f/4 lens on a full-frame platform. The Fujifilm XF 23mm F2 R WR delivers a 35mm full-frame equivalent field of view and stands out due to its small size and weather-resistant build. I don't need long exposure stabilization for wildlife, but for other shooting hand held shooting it is great.
