Overall, the C2 coffee grinder is fantastic value for money and highly recommended as an entry level option, a travel companion or as a dedicated filter coffee grinder. Like its new and improved version, the Timemore Chestnut C3 or Timemore Grinder Go, the Timemore Chestnut C2 grinder has 38 mm stainless steel conical burrs, which is the standard size for many other coffee grinders of a similar size. The high-quality burrs in this burr grinder are made of 5-axis CNC. The hardness of the stainless steel burr grinder is HRC 55-58, which cuts the coffee beans swiftly and consistently. This burr set has a 420 high-quality grade score. For comparison, this is much more effective than typical ceramic burr grinders. The idea behind the surface is that it gives some extra grip, but it doesn’t make much difference in daily life. However, the diameter and ergonomics of the C2 are already quite comfortable, so I never experienced issues with slipping while testing the grinder. With that said, even out of the box, the grinder produces a very nice looking grind from the moka pot level on up to press pot. For the full review, we’ll be putting it through sieve tests to find out the particle size ranges, but early on, it’s looking pretty decent, except for espresso.

The C2 also has a pretty small capacity at only 25 grams (compared to other hand grinders that hold anywhere from 30 to even 40 grams). Best For The handle is stainless steel and mounted on ball bearings, so it spins with minimal resistance for a pretty smooth experience.As already mentioned, the new burrs offer excellent consistency, so in this respect, the S2C technology delivers on its promise. You only brew espresso: Though versatile, the C3 is definitely designed primarily for pour over brews. If you mostly find yourself pulling shots of espresso, opting for a grinder designed with that in mind makes sense. Two of our favourites are the 1Zpresso J-Max and the Kinu M47. If you want something more premium feeling and/or espresso capable, I think the Jx and Jx Pro is where it’s at. Both those models should be able to last a decade at least, while I’m not sure that goes for the C2.

But if you’re new to hand grinding and just want something to make your morning pour over extra special, the Timemore Chestnut C2 is a great choice. Timemore C2 Burrs But at the end of the day, it takes time to grind coffee beans — even for a speedy grinder like the C2. That should also help this hand grinder age a little more gracefully; burrs change over time, but a spring won’t lose tension that easily in a grinder (since it won’t undergo too much stress). I think the thing that impresses me most with the early use of this product is the “action” of the crank arm. Without coffee inside, it is glass-smooth with almost no friction at all. I hold the body of the grinder in one hand, give it a slight wiggle, and the crank arm can spin around at 150+ RPM if I wanted to. Along with that, the dual bearing axle system keeps the burrs very steady in their housing with very little wobble, if any. In terms of build and aesthetics, very little has changed between the C2 and the C3. The exterior, handle, and inner mechanics are all the same. Its 45 mm overall diameter is pretty comfortable for most hand sizes. The only difference is that the dial indicator has been upgraded from plastic to steel on the C3. Burr quality 3.5/5If, like me, you’re wary of adding more plastic than necessary into your kitchen, know that the C2 is at least made of PCTG plastic, which is BPA-free, food-safe, and extra-durable. PCTG plastic is much longer-lasting than many plastic parts. The Timemore Chestnut C2 is pleasant to use, but grinding two full grounds cups’ worth daily, or multiple times a day, could get old fast. It has an anatomically shaped handle that spins smoothly due to being mounted on ball bearings, and on the inside, there’s a set of 38 mm steel burrs. By now, we have seen this design often, and it works perfectly fine for these pour over-centric home grinders.
