There are many types of drone bags available on the market. Some are designed specifically for certain drones, while others are more general. Here are some of the most common types of drone bags:

DJI Avata only supports downward obstacle sensing when used with DJI FPV Remote Controller 2 or DJI Motion Controller in N Mode or S Mode. Tested with a production model DJI Avata in a controlled environment. Actual experience may vary depending on the environment, usage, and firmware version. Another useful feature is that the Avata has 20GB of internal storage, so forgetting to bring storage isn’t a catastrophe. You can set this space to be used even if you do insert a microSD card to provide some resilience against a card error ruining your best shot.

FAA regulations call for drone pilots to keep the aircraft within line of sight, another potential issue with the Avata. I had a spotter at my side for test flights, someone who could keep an eye on the drone and let me know if I needed to make an emergency stop or landing. The Avata also includes an ADS-B AirSense transponder; if you're flying above the treetops, the drone warns you when other aircraft are nearby. What’s slightly odd about the Goggles 2 is that, in most regards, they are superior to the Goggles V2, but not in every respect. I had similar safety concerns around the DJI FPV Combo, though it at least includes forward-facing obstacle sensors that allow for safer use around people. The Avata has downward-facing ToF IR sensors to make high-speed, ground-hugging flights possible, but don’t offer protection in other directions. The sensors also improve stability when flying indoors without a GPS assist—the drone is smart enough to slow down when it's flying in tight confines, a plus if you're trying to recreate the Tesla Gigafactory Cinewhoop tour video for fun or profit, or if you simply want to see if you can fly through your house without damaging anything. To control the limited interface, the Goggles 2 has a touchpad on the right-hand side that can be used to make adjustments to the controls, capture quality and other settings. DJI Avata is the first FPV drone with built-in propeller guards, enabling it to withstand minor collisions for a worry-free flight: Perfect for high-octane deployments - indoors or outdoors - to capture dazzling cinewhoop-style content. When using the standard DJI Motion Controller in one of the combos, you can perform motion control on the aircraft. That is, you can turn your wrist to control the direction of flight, and the aircraft will fly wherever you point to. You can also press the accelerator to control the speed of flying forward, or release the accelerator to let the aircraft hover in place. The control is intuitive and easy-to-learn. Where the FPV topped out at an impressive 87mph (140 kph) in 'Manual' mode, the Avata is limited to just 27m/s or 60mph (97.2 kph). The DJI FPV flew at this speed in 'Sport' mode, so the Avata is significantly slower. The 155° FOV is only available when the aspect ratio is 4:3, and the video recording specification is 2.7K@50/60fps or 1080p@50fps/60fps; the aspect ratio is 16:9, and the video recording specification is 4K@50/60fps, 2.7K@50/60fps, or 1080p@50/60fps. This is because DJI didn’t provide any carrying case with the drone, which is a pity, but we clearly can’t take the risk of carrying DJI Avata without it. Why do you need a carrying case for your DJI Avata? To fly safely in this manner, you really need a space that's free and clear of other humans. If you fly the Avata into a tree, the worst you have to deal with is a broken drone. In its zippy 31mph Sports flight mode, the drone could do some real damage if you hit a person, however. I also expect shattered glass or a broken windshield if you run into a building or car. Needless to say, you shouldn't bring this drone to a public park. The DJI Avata is a better considered and more sedate entry to the world of FPV flying than its predecessor, but it falls into a space between camera drones and FPV hardware that might not satisfy either objective as effectively as more dedicated solutions. DJI Goggles Integra and DJI Goggles 2 are similar in size, video transmission performance, and screen display.

The critical issue here is that this type of flying is a major departure from flying camera drones, and not all pilots will instantly enjoy it. If you discover that FPV flying isn’t for you, then this could be a very expensive mistake. You can attach a phone using USB-C and use it to update firmware and manage the recordings that the Avata makes, but this isn’t necessary to fly or record video. It’s telling that the Motion Controller will allow the drone to shift from Normal to Sport flight mode, but it doesn’t support Manual mode as it would be a perfect recipe for crashing.
