They were so enthralled with the results they attempted to give me a handful of cash, which I refused. That was not part of the deal from the beginning and I'm sure they didn't really have it to handover. I told him that was really very cool of him and I really appreciated it but I wouldn't accept it in this case. Actually, Solution Finish likes a warmer surface rather than cold, so application in the sun only has a positive effect on the performance and durability. We have been told that in extreme cold conditions, let's say 40 degrees and below, it's not recommended to apply Solution Finish. I would be negligent to act as if there is nothing that seriously darkens faded trim and lasts for months while leaving a dry to the touch surface. There is a coating (C4) made for trim that claims 1-2 years and is a good product but in my testing it began to fade within 5 months on the horizontal surfaces. While it still beads a little and the vertical surfaces are decent the fading on horizontals was very disappointing for the price. At 2.3X to 9X the cost of Solution Finish it's very pricey and does not work on extremely faded plastic.

This product has an oily consistency that makes it easy to spread out for an even finish. Since it’s a topical solution it also helps repel water and other contaminants. Durability ultimately depends on many factors including the quality, grain & texture of the plastic trim being treated, expect 6-8 months on first application and 12 month plus on additional applications. In recent years we have seen huge advances in solving this one. There are a few products available now that do a good job of protecting new trim, leaving a non-greasy finish, and boasting many months of durability. But do they stop the trim from oxidizing? More on that later. After application I took a clean mf towel and completely buffed off the excess product. This is an important step. The excess buffs off easy and after finishing I flipped to a clean side to wipe once more just to be sure nothing else was coming off. A struggle that many other trim products have is the ability to penetrate the surface of plastics. While plastic is considered a porous material, it is at a microscopic level. Silicone-based products are much larger at the chemical component level and are a little too fat to make it into the material. If you're wondering how Solution Finish is able to do this, don't worry; I'm not going to leave you at the edge of your seat. In the manufacturing process of these components the carbon is milled down 7 times, bringing its size down to that of a virus. From there, it's modified and combined with a penetrating oil that drives it deep into the microscopic pores.While in most applications you won't need to stop and allow the product to dissolve the oxidation, it's good to keep this process in mind. Once fully applied, buff away excess product. A quality trim restorer will do more than just dye the plastic or sit on top, both of which are superficial, temporary solutions to your problem and will wash away in the slightest rain. Goes a long way: All the vehicles shown in my review were completed without making it through 3/4 of a 1 oz. bottle.

Is Solution Finish particularly vulnerable to any specific types of cleaners people may want to avoid? Using a dedicated prep spray or isopropyl alcohol paired with a deep nap microfiber, give the surface a thorough wipe down. If you are working with intricate or detailed plastic a detail brush can help ensure you work your prep solution over the entire surface.I wanted to really put SF to the test on completely whitened trim (more on that later) but my adventure and first application actually starts on the type of fading that you see on most vehicles. Use a clean microfibre cloth to buff off excess and wipe off glass and paint (will stain unsealed paint).
