Pry out the grey piece and its spring from the inside of the magazine release button, taking care not to let the spring fly away and get lost. This method is demonstrated in pictures two, three, and four. Keep these pieces, as they will need to be replaced. The Recon MKII was inspired by the N-Strike Retaliator [2], making it a successor of sorts. In part, and perhaps due to its name, it may also be considered a successor to the N-Strike Recon CS-6.

Note: Some of the plunger tubing pictured below has been cut out of the plunger for demonstration purposes. Do not do this EVER. Replace both halves of the blaster shell, replacing and tightening all screws as in pictures two and three. The front of the original Recon has a small protrusion near the bottom with a five-dot "dice" pattern on each side. This prevented attaching tall barrel extensions, such as the Mega Dart Barrel Extension from the Tri-Strike, to the blaster. YouTube.The air restrictor (AR) slows down the flow of air from the plunger to the dart. This device serves to reduce the blaster's power and prevent the plunger from slamming into the plunger tubing at full speed, drastically reducing the noise generated during firing.

Removing air restrictors ("AR's") is a common modification for air-and-spring-powered Nerf blasters. We generally do not recommend removing the AR's, as the performance increase gained from such an undertaking is negligible at best, except in terms of projectile speed, which is nearly meaningless during a foam dart event. Step 2: Remove screws. Be sure to make note of each screw's placement, because sizes differ. The Recon CS-6 features a reverse plunger plunger system. Because of this, it is usually disliked in modding communities. The 2008 version of the blaster notably has a shorter plunger tube, due to the 2008 product recall and redesign of the plunger. A modification or “mod” is anything you do to your blaster that changes its looks, form, or functionality. Doing a custom paint job, adding your own accessories and parts, and working on the internals to increase power are all considered mods.If you have a comparatively newer (recalled) version of the Nerf Modulus Recon MKII, skip this step.
