This game looks like it was played once, not enjoyed and put in a cupboard/ attic with many other games sitting on top of it .

Given that players can loose vast amount of ore into the abyss thanks to sudden unforeseen events or can have their ore constantly stranded at a pithead or stolen or diverted by the other players, it follows that this might take a while. I have a old 1890 lidded (pewter) German Beer Stein in great condition that belonged to my great-grandfather. You can use these pounds to hire more lorries (and thus annoy your opponents more), build more drilling rigs to get more ore and eventually set up a canal company and hire barges which can transport a lot of ore at once and move rather faster than a lorry, of which more shortly.When a player rolls a one or a six, in addition to producing a unit (or units), they also receive a card. Finally the players begin to transport the production units across the sea by either barges, more slowly around the coast or more quickly by ships. The game consists of a playing board, 12 mine derricks (2 of each of 6 colours), 6 lorries, 5 barges, 2 ships, 90 pyramids (15 of each of 6 colours), 94 cubes (24 of each of 6 colours), 26 Production Cards, 6 Canal Company Title Deeds, 2 Production Debit Cards, 1 die and paper money comprising sterling and dollars. They are also considerably more expensive, and incapable of travelling inland to the mines; instead players must first transport their units to the central warehouse, from where ships can begin their journey. Although units can be sold at the mine, the low value of these units means this is rarely done, except when a player is short of cash. So everyone has to use lorries, which move across the board according to your dice roll (assuming you didn’t roll 1 or 6 and get some ore). Barges can carry more ore than a lorry and the canal spaces they move through mean they have a shorter route to the warehouse than lorries do, and they can also sail across the sea to sell your ore for dollars. In this country, the Minister for Transport has decreed that all transport must travel fully loaded. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

The one we used to play instructed players to have the card deck face down first of all so no-one knew what event was coming next and then, on the first reshuffle, to turn it face up so all the players would know what event was in the pipe even if they couldn’t control when it would happen and to keep flipping it round on each reshuffle. Although since it’s entirely possible to get several event cards in a row, you’ll still be blindsided some of the time. For the truly ambitious you can export your Tin Ore Abroad by Means of Ships which can move goods quickly but are more expensive or Barges. Only 2 small issues, the rules are not the original (via internet) and as i said before, this game has sat at the bottom of a pile for a long time resulting in the corners needed repairing .

This illustrates nicely what this game is good at: forcing the players into intricate and difficult balancing acts between competing goals. To stop other people screwing you over you need to keep your flow of both pounds and dollars in perfect balance with not too much and not too little of either. The game models the economic business of mining tin and gaining profit by transporting it to markets. The simplest way to achieve this is by getting 10 units to the furthest port (Port Boston), and another five to either of the nearer two (Race Bay or St.Hello, I am based in New Zealand so any places recommended for me unless online further appraisal I would appreciate being New Zealand based. A further layer of onion is presented by the final piece in the game, the ship, which can only carry ore overseas to sell for dollars but can do so using a fast-track sequence of spaces to make it faster than a barge and can carry a ton of ore.
