This was a really nice read, and I think it did a great job exploring the issue of children in care with Adverse Childhood Experiences and just how painful, confusing and complicated it is for them. My heart really went out to Addie, as it seemed like she was so alone in the world, with no mum to look after her, no friends, nobody who was really there for her, until she had the foal of course, and eventually Jude and some of the others at the farmhouse, as it was lovely seeing her developing friendship with Jude, with his character arc being a really heartwarming one, though it was very bittersweet when he got adopted and thus had to leave the farmhouse, as it was wonderful how he got adopted by such a lovely, kind, genuine, caring couple yet heartbreaking for Addie how she had lost him who was her only real friend at the house. Ruth would have rules, too, Addie thought – rules for children like her, who didn’t really belong in this house. She would tell Addie what they were when Penny had gone. Like Dawn did.
