This five-mile path offers a unique insight into the North Devon area, taking in a variety of landscapes including beaches, cliffs, wildlife reserves, and farmlands. It’s a great way to explore the area, as you can take your time, stopping to enjoy the scenery along the way. You may have even taken this trail before without even realising it. But how often have you walked up Royal Parade and not noticed the beautiful lime trees? Or driven by the Waterfront and not spotted the wildflower meadows by the Royal Citadel? The path officially begins at the Sundial and circles around Royal Parade, down to the Barbican and up to the Waterfront but, as with all the trails listed here, you can join it at any point. 30) Saltram House Beer Head and Fire Beacon Circular are great hikes for those looking for a challenge – and the views are definitely worth it!

The path eventually leads down to the beach, where you can take a dip in the clear blue waters or just relax on the shore with a picnic.Explore the rugged beauty of Heddon Valley, a stunning area of North Devon renowned for its dramatic cliff-faces, hidden coves, and unique wildlife. From here, it follows a pleasant path along the banks of the River Otter before turning inland to take in some spectacular countryside scenery. The Two Moors Way is a challenging and rewarding walk, with an abundance of wildlife, and breathtaking views. It passes through many quaint villages, such as Lynmouth, Bampton, and Wheddon Cross, which offer places to rest and enjoy local delicacies. By joining one of the great heritage trails or guided walks available you can ensure you see the best of what we have to offer as well as learning about the history and landscape you see all around you. Walking is more popular with visitors to South Devon than ever, but don’t worry about crowds. With more miles of footpaths and roads than almost any other county in England there’s plenty of room for everyone. An easy circular walk suitable for all the family, this trail meanders along the banks of the East Lyn River from Watersmeet House through beautiful woodlands. What’s more, the riverbank is home to many ancient trees – making it ideal for nature lovers or anyone looking to get away from it all. Stretching from Minehead in Somerset to Poole Harbour in Dorset, the 630 mile South West Coast Path is the longest National trail in the UK, and it takes in some of the country’s most spectacular coastlines. This two-hour route is full of beauty, with rolling hills and lush meadows that are a joy to behold. Whether you take on this entire challenge or just enjoy a leisurely stroll around Colaton Raleigh Circular, there’s no shortage of beautiful scenery to explore in East Devon. 11. Aylesbeare Common Circular From the Coypool Park and Ride you'll head up to Plym Bridge via the Route 27 cycle path. Watch out for cyclists as this is a shared path. Wandering through the woods at your own pace you can see traces of mines and railways, long since abandoned, that nature has reclaimed.

As you wander through Mutters Moor, you’ll find yourself surrounded by ancient woodland and heathland, with miles of open grassland stretching out before you. To really enjoy your experience here, don’t forget to bring a picnic and admire the views from the top of the hill! After your walk, why not take a break in one of the traditional pubs or cafes located in the nearby villages? Whatever you choose to do, you’re sure to be captivated by the beauty of Heddon Valley. Exmoor National Park Dartmouth Castle is one of the most beautifully located fortresses in England (Image: DC Media) 7) Wembury Beach to Heybrook BayIt begins in Okehampton on the shoulder of Dartmoor, and initially takes in the sights of the town’s historic architecture and an old waterwheel. It continues along paths, across a field and through woodlands, then alongside the the East Okement river. From this scenic valley the route passes by small waterfalls and still pools, then continues in a climb to East Hill – on a clear day you’ll see fantastic views across to Exmoor and an almost aerial view of Okehampton – before returning to the town. Here, you can wander through ancient alleyways and along winding cobbled streets lined with magnificent Gothic architecture. Starting at the car park in Mamhead, the route follows through the forest and a beech-lined avenue to the high viewpoint near the Obelisk. From here there are views across the whole of Exeter, and on a clear day across to Start Point and Dawlish. As its name suggests, the route passes through some of the most spectacular moorland scenery in the UK and is a must-see for any lover of the great outdoors. The route eventually leads you up onto Woodbury Castle, an Iron Age hill fort with breathtaking views across East Devon.
