First showing up in Games Workshop’s ill-fated Cursed City boxed dungeon-crawler, Radukar is a vampire lord with a celebrated history. The Avengorii are known for many strange rituals intended to feed their monstrous nature. Other vampires look upon these with bewilderment and disdain but the lords of the dynasty are too deranged, seeing their trials as holy acts they endure to achieve true communion with their so-called ‘curse’. [3a] Lauka Vai, Mother of Nightmares has joined the opposing side after falling into primordial ooze after a run in with a Tzeentchian Sorcerer. The once courageous vampire-knight now suffers a strong thirst for blood and fits of rage. Already having slain her fellow knights, the Mother of Nightmares can turn on anyone at any point.

Playing the Soulblight Gravelords in Age of Sigmar

Not only are the new models disturbingly tempting, but the battletome includes five vampiric bloodlines, each with its own culture and style of warfare. A few of them are getting more attention later this week, so consider this a tantalising taste. Looking at the new models, Lauka Vai is simply spectacular – hideous, and disturbing, and yet full of alluring, debonair charm that only vampires can exude, she’s about as sexy a creature as you’re likely to find, that’s essentially a human torso protruding from a ghoulish, distended bat-body. A super-tall, visually incredible sculpt, this lady is going to be in high demand for Soulblight armies. In a welcome twist, the kit can also be constructed as a generic, non-named-character variant, the Vengorian Lord, which in itself looks pretty ace. I was expecting this to be the thing I need for this autumn season and this blew all my expectations out of the water. It was dark, it had the vampires in them who were monsters but were the most human out of all of them, and it also shows how someone who believes so hard in their city becomes a zealot to do whatever they can to keep the so-called "monsters" out of their city, to protect the people who can't fight at all but want to protect them. Radukar the Beast is explicitly introduced as a returned, shapeshifted form of the villainous vampire Radukar the Wolf, the Big Bad of Warhammer Quest: Cursed City. Despite nominally being killed by the players at the climax of Cursed City’s main quest, we now know Radukar survives, gets hench, and “bides his time prowling Shyish and plotting revenge”.

I was mad, nodded at some parts, gasped at some parts, and also went "daaaamnnnn" in my mind as I read this. I learned about the Avengorii and how Lauka Vai makes sure they don't succumb to their bloodlust as they help the people of the Colonnade fight the beastmen and their people. The only that that irritated me throughout this book was the fact that the bard was the villain this whole time, and no one knew about it, only his brother did. I did like that in the end, he got his just desserts, and I also like how the councilor tried to save her city, just tried. But after learning the whole truth about her city, and how pure they wanted to be and betraying the Avengorii and Lauka Vai, that's when she just snapped and killed almost everyone that she thought she called friend and family, and also that Vash fellow was just so annoying. I'm glad he got his as well.Not only are the Avengorii twisted in body, but their minds also become increasingly deranged over time. Other bloodlines see them as debased, but they know they’re just a hair’s breadth away from becoming just like them. These rapacious elites fall into many dynasties, defined by the cursed blood running through their veins, each vying for power and status as Nagash recovers from his defeat by the Archmage Teclis . Of these, five stand prominent above the rest – Mannfred Von Carstein commands the Legion of Night, while Neferata sits at the head of the Legion of Blood, spinning plots and schemes.* The vampires that went on to become Vengorians were those most attuned to magic. They detected the first stirrings of the Arcanum Optimar and travelled to cities closest to Nagashizzar to bathe in the coming storm of death magic. When the Necroquake broke, however, they received far more than they bargained for. Even they lords of evil could not endure such potent ending-magics and remain unchanged, turning them into they monsters they truly were. It is common for Vengorians to tell themselves that they have merely mastered the Necroquake - this is a lie, as their colossal egos struggle to cope with the fact that they are us hideous on the outside as they are within. [1a] Combat A new (if very old) face is Radukar’s great great (we don’t really know how many greats) grandmother (grandsire?), Belladamma Volga. Clad in luxurious, somewhat slav-esque garb, and furs, and riding a huge Dire Wolf side-saddle, she’s a deeply unnerving combination of apparent physical frailty, and huge implicit threat, sat on top of what has to be one of Age of Sigmar’s simplest, but finest, scenic character bases yet.
