This book has been out of print for many years but we still have the odd studio copy available - usually well loved, with the odd cover scratch, dent and bump. His instantly recognisable style, palette and choice of subject have an almost universal appeal, a blend which has increased in popularity with the passing of time, particularly in the first two decades of the 21st century.

Eric Ravilious: The Story of High Street was high on the artist’s admirers’ Christmas wish lists last year, despite several other new books about him having been published during 2008 by private presses and trade publishers.

This beautiful facsimile edition features all 24 of Ravilious's colour illustrations, and includes an essay by Gill Saunders, Senior Curator of Prints at the Victoria and Albert Museum, that sets the book in its historical context. M. Richards, was eventually published by Noel Carrington, brother of the artist Dora Carrington and editor at Country Life Books. Only 2000 copies of the original book were printed before the lithographic plates were destroyed in the London Blitz. This is the world Ravilious set out to explore in High Street, a world of defined spaces and roles that was already falling apart when the book was published.
