As the face card of the set, it’s no surprise that Elesh Norn’s new incarnation is one of its most powerful Legendary creatures as well. Doubling the effects of cards is a dangerous thing to do in any context, and Elesh Norn does just that for enters-the-battlefield triggers, one of the most common sources of value in the Commander format. As I pointed out in my full set review, affinity for Equipment is a new thing which power gates affinity kind of nicely. If we have Equipment to attach, we’ll never pay full price; even if we do, that’s ten power for eight mana, which isn’t awful. Generally, we want more out of a ten-mana spell, but I suppose if we play to cast it, it’ll never cost that much. Goldwardens’ Gambit might be a good reason to pay Bloodforged Battle-Axe. Hexplate Wallbreaker Now that we have looked at the Collector Booster, let's look closer at each treatment and where we can find these cards. One of the cards that I think is going to have the biggest impact on the format, Clever Concealment has some folks calling it the next Teferi’s Protection. I won’t go that far, but it’s quite strong. Because it has convoke and our creatures can help pay the mana cost, we can be tapped out mana-wise and still cast the spell. We just need four untapped creatures (with two of them being some flavor of white). From there, we can phase out any number of nonland permanents we control. Our lands, and more importantly our life total, are not protected.

It’s just a little something (and another common, by the way) that does a little thing and replaces itself. It’s an instant, so it’s never going to be a waste. Zopandrel, Dominus of Hunger has a powerful effect, but it’s a pretty expensive creature to have as a commander. Venser, Corpse Puppet gives you a good bit of value for only two mana. Its toxic ability makes up for its low power, and you don’t need to hit your opponents too many times since you’re building around proliferate. There’s plenty of good proliferate support in Dimir ( ) with cards like Inexorable Tide and the new Vraska, Betrayal's Sting, so you can easily give your creatures some evasion with Venser’s triggered ability. This makes it easier to distribute poison with toxic, infect, or poisonous creatures. #15. Ezuri, Stalker of Spheres

Atraxa, Grand Unifier might not be as powerful as the character’s last incarnation, but it can likely still be a fun commander. This Atraxa almost has a classic Elder Dragon Highlander feel thanks to flying and seven power. Rebel creature, for Glimmer Lens, Goldwardens' Gambit, Hexplate Wallbreaker, Kemba's Banner and Otharri, Suns' Glory. Fight against compleation or join Phyrexian ranks with 34 full-art tokens, one Koth, Fire of Resistance emblem, and two types of helper cards from across Phyrexia: All Will Be One products. I like the move of encouraging people to play higher-mana-value commanders. The casting and equip costs are reasonable for what we get. Suddenly, a six-mana 6/6, like Intet, the Dreamer, becomes a two-shot commander damage killer. Ghalta, Primal Hunger becomes a one-shot. For the most style points, equip Tangleweave Armor to one of the eight-mana OG Elder Dragons. Urtet, Remnant of Memnarch The Eternal Wanderer is another top-end option, being a very powerful planeswalker that can reuse all your creatures’ enter-the-battlefield effects, add more tokens and pretty effectively close out the game. The only real downside is that its ability exiles cards, so you need to be okay with a bit of risk when playing it. #21. Mondrak, Glory Dominus is a great commander because it’s basically a Anointed Procession that you can run as your commander. It’s easy to have Mondrak be indestructible and that much harder for opponents to get rid of it if you play it at the right time.
