Chester is the neighborhood Weird Kid. Clearly. He always does things in his own special and particular way. So does his friend, Wilson. They double knot their shoelaces. They use handsignals on their bikes. They never swing at the first pitch. They always carry extra bandaids.Show the anchor chart with the graphic of two people talking. Chester is a creature of habit. He always does things in very precise ways and he likes his routine and so does his best friend Wilson. Wilson, Chester's best friend, is exactly like Chester. They enjoy the companionship and their shared preferences. Then Lilly moves into the neighborhood. Lilly frightens and appalls the very conventional duo with her exuberance, her outlandish disguises and loud proclamations. They avoid her and reject her offers of friendship. Then, when Chester and Wilson are being harassed by some older children, Lilly comes to their rescue and they first tentatively and then wholeheartedly accept her friendship. Lilly opens up many avenues of adventure for Chester and Wilson and they find, to their amazement, that the three have much in common. All is going swimmingly until Victor prances into the neighborhood and there the author leaves us. Kevin Henkes created a wonderful story about friendship in Chester's Way. The story begins by describing Chester, a young personified mouse who likes everything a certain way. His best friend Wilson has very similar interests, and they do everything together. When Lilly moves into their neighborhood, Chester and Wilson do not quite know what to make of her strange way of doing things. When she tries to befriend them, they find ways of ignoring her. RL.2.1 Ask and answer questions (e.g., who was the story about; why did an event happen; where did the story happen) to demonstrate understanding of main idea and key details in a text.On White Water trips, please wear a bathing suit to go under your wetsuit (provided). As mentioned above, The Chester Grosvenor is home to Le Brasserie and Arkle. La Brasserie, a vibrant 2 AA Rosette restaurant serving contemporary dishes alongside glamorous Champagne, and the Arkle Bar, a room of elegance and sophistication offering an interesting array of malts, vintage ports, liquors, and wines, all alongside Traditional Afternoon Teas. Allow kids to talk with their partners with the new expectations in place. Signal to regroup and discuss the word 'respectful.' Prompt as needed to be sure that the following areas are included in the discussion: taking turns, nodding, disagreeing kindly and explaining why, using a kind tone of voice, etc. You may need to follow-up this lesson with some mini-lessons throughout the year. Yesterday, we practiced our listening skills during our reading lesson with the text, Chester's Way. We learned that good readers retell to show that they understand the important parts of the story. Today, you are going to practice retelling again, but this time, we are going to build your speaking and listening skills as you work with a partner. We call this activity, Smart Partners, because we can learn a lot from each other when we listen.
