The setting of this book kind of made me laugh. Has any King book taken place in space before? This may be the first. We are in the year 2026, and COVID-19 is still a thing, but with vaccines people have moved on. We have Donald Trump and the current GOP in this world and it made me shake my head. I don't really care about Stephen King's politics or him talking about them via characters in his books. I know some readers got mad about it, but it is what it is. I think he's going to keep inserting Trump in his books because he writes about terrible things all the time and I think he can't quite grasp how Americans fell for someone he sees as worse than Greg Stillson (The Dead Zone). I also thought that King was taking a swipe at the whole rich men space race that was going on a few months ago in this one too and showing why he thinks it's stupid to uplift billionaires. The Button Box was the perfect show for our Primary 4's to perform this year! The children absolutely loved the story and the songs. We all had a wonderful time rehearsing the production and the audience thoroughly enjoyed the performances. I would definitely recommend this show to other schools and I would love to do it again in the future. Our favourite song was 'Belly Button Boogie', we even had the audience joining in on the last night!’ The house was clean, but not the kitchen ustensiles and recipiends, obliged to clean before using .... Secondly, wifi failed.... Impossible to be connected. Very quiet place . To see what this whole button box is all about was very thought-provoking and just made me see things in a whole new light. I’d highly recommend reading this trilogy consecutively as it’s just a great story from beginning to end. It’s another bit of a slow burn but my goodness, it delivers and then some towards the end. The payoff is real as you get to the last 30% of this novel. There was this weird writing tic for a chunk of the book, where whichever author was responsible kept murdering the chapter endings with overexplanation. The first and worst followed Richard Farris's last visit to Gwendy's home. As he is wont to do, he vanished like a fart in the wind while Gwendy was momentarily distracted, with this final line:

The film stars Cameron Diaz and James Marsden as a couple who receive a box from a mysterious man (played by Frank Langella) who offers them one million dollars if they press the button sealed within the dome on top of the box, but tells them that, once the button has been pushed, someone they do not know will die. It’s hard to believe now, when people go to funerals in jeans and anoraks, that mourning dress was once so elaborate, its conventions both strict and ghoulish. But in the 19th and early 20th century, death was all around. Surely someone was entitled to benefit. In her new book, The Button Box, Lynn Knight cites some of the more macabre jewellery favoured by bereaved Victorians: the brooches like those worn by the women in Elizabeth Gaskell’s Cranford, in which the hair of the loved one was used to execute mausoleums and weeping willows; the buttons that resembled weeping eyes. But as she also notes, jewellery wasn’t the half of it. Drapers’ assistants knew “the correct scale of lamentation by trimming”. John Lewis sold 50 kinds of crepe. A 19th-century skit had a woman being shown a widow’s silk: “Watered, you perceive, to match the sentiment. It is called ‘Inconsolable’, and is very much in vogue in Paris for matrimonial bereavements.” But wait! There's the entire ending. King and Chizmar take it into an entirely new level of ridiculousness, expecting the reader to suspend so much disbelief it could fill the Grand Canyon, just so they can force the ending that had to happen, but never could in any sort of sane, realistic scenario. Why you should buy this: If you’re a completion-ist, you’ll buy this, simply so you have all of King’s work. If you’ve read book one, and not book two as it wasn’t co-authored by King (insert eye-roll emoji) you’ll want to read that and then snag this. She finds herself in a space trip to Mars during the pandemic with hidden agenda: instead of protecting the box, she has to dispose it! She’s the one who has important mission to be achieved for the sake of universe! We have recently performed The Button Box as our end of term play and I would just like to say how wonderful it was! I am a Y6 teacher and my class absolutely loved the storyline and parts to this play (we even had to create some extra parts using the ideas within the songs!). We had 3 performances in total and they were all fantastic - we had many lovely comments from parents and relatives about the production.’

In 2019, Chizmar returned, with King’s blessing (and a foreword) to show what Gwendy was up to and how the button box still played an active role in her life and its hold it had over her. Don’t worry, I would never spoil anything for you but my goodness, I was blown away by this novel. This was a unique way to end this trilogy as it’s a story within a story on top of finally understanding what this whole button box is all about. If you are a fellow Constant Reader, you will LOVE what is revealed from King’s Universe in this one. I’ll leave it at that but let’s just say you will be delighted with what awaits. Especially if you enjoy clowns. Golcar is a lovely place with plenty of places to eat and drink , it's quite hilly but there are plenty of places to visit nearby using your car or public transport Then, in 2022, King returned with Chizmar to tell the ending and boy, let me tell you, this is a definitive ending, but also an emotional rollercoaster. It happens again, not quite as egregiously, but still someone felt the need to cap several chapters with a completely unnecessary extra two-word paragraph. Following a mysterious phone call leaking information that Gwendy was seeking but was otherwise stonewalled,We had 120 Year 2s and 3s performing this 3 times this week, and it got a great reaction due to all of the different cultures represented and how original it was. We put a suitable, fun dance to all of the songs. Parents and staff loved it and it was such fun to produce and perform. We had 7 and 8 year olds doing solos and it was wonderful. Costumes were excellent and with lights, musicians and props it looked brilliant.’

Gwendy Peterson, the woman who-- as a girl-- was originally put in charge of a box that could destroy the world, is now in her 60s and experiencing the first signs of Alzheimer’s Disease. She knows her condition will only get worse. Still, she has a mission: get rid of the Box once and for all. The writing is odious and obnoxious and so lovingly awful that I have to assume Chizmar wrote the bulk of this, and King dipped in and filled in some of the Low Men and Dark Tower references. It's amusing that, toward the end, Gwendy thinks, I've wandered into a comic book when most of the damn thing is written far worse than the average comic book is, these days. We've just finished our performances of 'The Button Box'. It was my second time doing your show and once again it was a huge success. The structure of it works so well for a primary school production. I have recommended it to other teacher friends, and last term there were 2 other local schools also doing it in the same week as us! We had approx 300 students to accommodate and 'The Button Box' works perfectly for a large cast. You can easily have around 20 kids in each scene and they all get their special moment on stage (parents are very thankful for this too!!) - rather than just walking on and off again in 2 seconds.

All those involved in the 'Button Box' musical journey; the children, class teachers, parents and music teachers agreed that it was a fantastic performance to create, with a wonderful story and amazing songs. The audience of all ages; family, friends and Governors thoroughly enjoyed it. So Adaptable.The access to the cottage is along a lane that the neterance to is right on the corner of the street and is a tight turn into the laneso can be a bit daunting. There is nowhere to put clothes so living out the suitcase but that's OK. The only downside is the shower is tiny and difficult to get into if you are a bit large. Husband has mobility issues and this cottage was very easy for him to move around as all on one level and mainly laminate flooring with a ramp into the property."
